As Pamela and the others watched on in shock, Woody strode through the doors.
“The VIP is here. Be on your highest guard. The dinner tonight is a special one, and we can’t afford to make any mistakes!” Clement instructed his subordinates before hastily jogging after Woody.
Kurt couldn’t believe what he just saw. Woody was wearing cheap clothing, and he had only recently been released from prison. Why would the Cartwright family treat him as an honored guest? Everyone knew how esteemed the Cartwrights were.
In Tiusto, both wealthy businessmen and big shots would try to suck up to the Cartwrights. The Cartwrights never had to suck up to anyone.
Even the Donnels had always depended on the Cartwrights to earn their living. Kurt’s father could meet Mason, but it was quite a lofty wish. But now, the Cartwrights were being extremely polite to Woody. It didn’t make sense at all.
“What’s going on?” Kurt asked Pamela, widening his eyes.
Pamela was puzzled as well. “How would I know? We got divorced as soon as he got out of prison.”
“Yes, I was there too. I can testify for Ms. York,” Miriam hastily said.
Kurt frowned deeply as he said, “That’s weird. How did this guy receive the acknowledgment of the Cartwrights in such a short period?”
Then, his eyes lit up. “I see now! He must have used some shady tactics to scam the Cartwrights.”
“Is that possible?” Pamela doubted it. If the Cartwrights were so easily fooled, how did they manage to become the landlords of Tiusto?
Kurt said confidently, “Even the smartest people make mistakes, and the Cartwrights are no exception. They’re human, after all. They can’t avoid making the same mistakes that all humans do.
“Of course, I’m not saying that they’re stupid. Instead, the scammer was quite smart. Your ex-husband must have picked up some despicable skills in prison. I’m sure of it.”
Miriam couldn’t help but be worried. ” What do we do? If he has won over the Cartwright family, we’d be at a disadvantage.”
Kurt smiled confidently as he said, ” Easy! We’ll expose him in front of the Cartwrights and all the guests. He’ll definitely be in trouble then!
“The Cartwrights prioritize their reputation above all else. If they knew that they had been duped, they would kill him!”
Miriam was elated. “You’re right, Mr. Donnel. This is an ending befitting a scammer. What do you think, Ms. York?
Pamela was a little conflicted. She used to be married to Woody, after all. Even though Woody had injured Trudy and Brutus, this was a grudge between her and Woody. She didn’t want to get revenge by depending on others.
Judging by how cruel the Cartwrights were, Woody would probably die if they got a hold of him.
Seeing that Pamela wasn’t saying anything, Miriam asked loudly, ”
What’s the matter, Ms. York? Are you taking pity on him? Don’t forget, Mrs. York and Brutus are still in the hospital!
“Woody not only flirted with other women but he also got involved with the Cartwrights. He does not deserve pity.”
Pamela hastily said, “That’s not it. I was just wondering how the Cartwrights would deal with him.”
“That’s more like it!” Kurt had a reassured look on his face. Just now, like Miriam, he was suspecting that Pamela had pitied Woody.
“Let’s go in now. The dinner is about to begin.” Pamela changed the topic.
Smiling, Kurt said, “Before I came, I called my dad and asked him to arrange the best seats for us. We’ll be sitting quite close to Helen, the princess of the Cartwright family. It’s easier for Pamela to talk to her.
“You don’t know this, but now, Ms. Cartwright is the one calling the shots at Cartwright Group. You’re both women, and you have many things in common, so please try to establish a connection with her. You’ll raise your chances of success that way!”
