The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning by Max Charming Chapter 516

Ethan smiled and nodded, “Mhm. I’ll always support you no matter what… Mrs. Arnold to-be!”

The two chatted for a while. They talked about what they would eat the next day, the engagement trip they would have after Madelyn’s graduation and many other things.

By the time Ethan lowered his head to look at her, she had already fallen asleep. However, Madelyn seemed like she was not having a restful sleep. Her eyebrows were furrowed, and her long dark hair covered her face.

Ethan moved her hair out of her face and kissed her on the lips. Then, he gently carried her upstairs to the master bedroom. For the past few days, the two had practically been staying together and sleeping on the same bed. They did nothing more than hugging and cuddling, but Ethan already felt content just doing so.

‘She’s still young. I’ve already waited this long, so I can wait a little longer,’ he thought. In the middle of the night, Madelyn woke up with her clothes drenched in sweat. Ethan’s arm was tightly wrapped around her waist, and her back was pressed against his chest.

Madelyn did not want to wake him up, so she carefully slipped out of bed and returned to her room. After she took a cold shower and changed out of her clothes, she felt much better. She wore a long tee-shirt that revealed her long legs.

Suddenly, her phone that was charging on the bedside table rang. Madelyn was curious as to who would call her at such an hour, thinking it might be Mya. She dried her hair with one hand while checking her phone with the other.

When she saw the caller ID, she dropped her phone in shock.

Madelyn had no intention of answering the phone. Just as she was about to decline the call, she saw a bright light peeking through the gap of her curtains. She stared at the light pouring in from the gaps of her curtains as her heart began racing wildly in terror.

Madelyn could not help but slow down her pace as she walked over to the windows. She drew open the curtains and saw a familiar car parked at the entrance.

‘Is he crazy?! This is the Arnold residence, How’d he dare to come here? she thought. The phone stopped ringing, and there promptly was a text notification.

Zach: [Come down.]

Madelyn did not respond and stared fixedly at her phone as the terror she felt toward him began to creep back in.

Two minutes later, she received another text message. Zach: [Don’t make me wait. You have three more minutes.]

Madelyn typed a reply with her trembling fingers.

[I’m not going down.]

She deleted and typed those few words over and over again, but did not send the message. Madelyn had her heart in her throat, as if she could hear her thumping heart in the quiet room.

The passing minute felt like an eternity to Madelyn. Eventually, she mustered up the courage to hesitantly type up a response and finally sent him a reply.

[Now isn’t a good time. He’s in my room. You should go back. There’s nothing to talk about between the two of us. Please don’t come here again.]

Madelyn sent the text message and immediately blocked the number before he could respond. Meanwhile, Zach was in his car downstairs with the headlights still on. He stared dangerously at the window upstairs until the lights inside went out.

Zach curled his lips into an indecipherable smile.

Madelyn Jent died on her wedding anniversary. She had been married to Zach Jardin for eight years, compromising for the better part of her life. However, she ended up being kicked out of the house. After the painful divorce, Madelyn was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Despite her deteriorating health, she clung to life in the hospital, hoping that Zach would visit her one last time. As Valentine's Day arrived, heavy snow fell outside. Yet, Zach failed to make an appearance, leaving Madelyn with a deep sense of regret. "Zach Jardin... If I could start over, I would never fall in love with you again!"

Miraculously, Madelyn found herself reborn to the time when she was eighteen. Fueled by the desire to avoid repeating the same mistakes, she made a solemn vow to distance herself from everything related to Zach. But fate seemed determined to test her resolve. Just as she sought to escape the shadows of her past, the same man, Zach, emerged with an intimidating aura, gradually approaching her step by step. His voice, reminiscent of a devil's melody, echoed through the hallway as he declared, "Madelyn, I'll take care of you for the rest of your life..."

Chapter 1 On February 14th, Valentine's Day, Madelyn Jent, a 31-year-old woman, lost her battle to cancer. Inside a room in SereneCare Hospital in Ventropolis, the air was filled with a strong scent of disinfectant. [Zach, the doctor inserted a painful dialysis needle in me today.] [I'm on the verge of death. Could you spare a moment to visit me?] [Please, Zach...] Madelyn weakly turned her head and glanced at the text messages on her phone. Despite sending multiple messages, she had received no response from Zach. IV drips were connected to her veins. Her face was pale, her eyes sunken, and her body emaciated. Cancer had ravaged her limbs, causing them to deteriorate. She was completely immobile, unable to perform even the simplest tasks unaided. The nurse assigned to care for her hadn't shown up for almost two weeks, citing that further treatment was unnecessary. Madelyn was sensitive to the pain, but in the advanced stage of her cancer, she had to suffer with it every day. The only thing that kept her going was her love for Zach. But now, her once overwhelming love for him had faded. She was left with nothing but a frail and ailing body. Madelyn switched off her phone and silently awaited the embrace of death. The pain had nearly blurred her consciousness. She reminisced about the eight years she had devoted to being Zach's faithful wife. But what had she gained in the end? One by one, those around her had abandoned her, leaving her alone and destitute. Madelyn couldn't help but think that Zach would perhaps feel the greatest relief upon her demise. With her gone, he no longer subjected to the sight of her face. He could finally satisfy his longing to bring Cecilia Samford home as his wife. Eight months ago, on Zach's birthday, Madelyn sat on the couch, anxiously waiting for his return. It was well past two o'clock in the morning, and the carefully prepared meal on the table had grown cold. Instead of Zach, it was his assistant who arrived, bearing a divorce agreement. The assistant delivered the news hesitantly, saying, "Madam, Mr. Jardin had no choice. The Jardin Corporation is a vast enterprise that requires an heir." Madelyn forced a pale smile. A few years ago, she had been pregnant, but an accident had tragically led to a stillborn child. Since then, she hadn't been able to conceive.
