Evelyn POV
“You helped her destroy the pack?” I could barely talk, the increasing state of my anger starting to affect my body. I could feel it pumping through my heart and into my vein, stretching out my muscles in preparation for my wolf to take charge.
He had no sense of remorse, nothing. I felt sick with each word that came out of his mouth. I wanted to cut out his tongue to stop him talking about the worst day of my life. He’s taking like it was a good job completed, an assignment he achieved to the best of his abilities. Something to put on the top of a resume.
He was proud, proud of causing a pack so much destruction. What kills me even more is that my Dad would have felt each pack member’s death until they came for him. It would have been a ticking time bomb, knowing he couldn’t protect Mum.
I slam my eyes shut as the image of Mum watching Dad die in front of her enters my mind. The sword was left in her chest to act as a message, for dramatic effects. If Noah and I weren’t at the lake, I would have had the same fate for certain. She wanted me dead, that’s what she wanted.
Even now that’s what she still wants.
Even Donnie was shaking with anger. He was there, he couldn’t get to them in time. I know the life long sentence he serves of knowing his Alpha and Luna died before he could get to them. He was the one that tried to stop me entering the house on that dark day. He knew after finding them, as they were, I would ever be the same.
“That Silver Moon pack and her mate’s pack was my finest work.” He proudly declares before his breathing is cut off by Reuben’s hand dangerously gripping his throat.
She really is a monster. Not only my pack but she ordered the killing of her own mate. She really was the she-devil. How could you kill your own mate! How could you go against the moon goddess in such a way? Does she even have blood in her veins, does she breathe the same air as Reuben and I.
I remember her playing the victim so well back then. How I tried to comfort her. How I even went out of my way to help Candice and Michelle to ready her room and all along she had killed her mate and pack just to be the Red Stone Luna?
“She killed her own mate, why?”
Reuben’s growl brings me back to the present. The barbaric animal in front of him is trying to respond but Reuben’s grip is too tight. He lessens it just enough so the bastard could respond.
“I don’t know, something about him being weak and her wanting her ex back. I don’t know. She didn’t seem to like the fact that he had married and had a contractual Luna.” His voice was starting to panic, his hands pulling at Reuben’s.
I glance over to Reuben, his own eyes glancing over at me. No words are needed, his look speaks a thousand
words. In them I can see the remorse of a true man, a man that knows power is earned not snatched. Not taken by the killing of innocent souls. He carries a guilt that I no longer blame him for. She was like a black widow spider. Her web of deception had been spinning for so long, long before she returned to the Red Stone pack. He was an innocent bystander, caught in her web of lies.
“Who exactly are you both?” He looks between the two of us, his eyebrows furrowing.
“I am Evelyn Bright, Alpha of the Silver Moon pack. The Alpha of the pack you destroyed….” Each word that leaves my mouth is a poisonous dart aimed at him.
I could feel my wolf pushing forward, her need to shift. My arms were tingling as she started to push her fur out, my teeth stretching into canines.
….The daughter of the Alpha and Luna you murdered in cold blood.” I’ve lost the grip in my hands as I drop my phone to the ground. My wolf is stretching out every muscle in the shift that normally takes less than a second but she was making it dramatic. Trying to intimidate him.
With a final growl she takes over, shifting and arching her back preparing to rip his head off.
Reuben POV
I watch in admiration as Evelyn’s wolf slows down the shift, such control shows great strength. He’s squirming on his spot, readying to make a run for it until Donnie places a forceful hand on his shoulder.
As much as I want to let her wolf finally get part of the revenge she so desperately needs, he needs to remain alive. If we want a chance of evidence against Vicky, he needs to admit this to pack elders and my council members.
Her light brown wolf continues to take my breath away as she shakes her fur out standing over the now shedded yoga pants and vest.
So feminine yet stronger than any other female wolf. Her dark green eyes are pinned on the man as she arches her back preparing for the kill.
As she lunges for him, I shift mid air knocking her off her course. Damn I wish I had a mind-link to her so I could communicate to her in wolf form. Tell her to think of the end goal, that killing him now will lead to unanswered questions.
Back on all fours she walks around my wolf, baring her teeth at him as she tries to find an opening. I won’t let her break through. Evelyn, he needs to be alive. He’ll continue to talk, this is the breakthrough that we needed.
She lunges for him again but I manage to remain in-between. We both collide together until she rolls and smashes through the barn wall, wood splintering everywhere. I hear a whimper and my heart stops beating for a few seconds.
“Evelyn?” Donnie shouts for her, taking a step towards her. I shift back into human form preventing him from leaving this fucker alone.
“Donnie, we need him alive to bring Vicky to justice. Take him to a safe hideout until we are back in touch with you.” I command at one of the Silver Moon Pack’s head warriors. He doesn’t have to follow my command but I’m put at ease from the nod he gives.
“Don’t you dare double cross me!” I roar at the rogue before shifting back into wolf form.
She’s not far, I can still smell her scent in the near distance. I follow her scent along the farmlands and into a small wooded area.
Her wolf is trying to pull a large piece of wood from out of its shoulder, but it can’t reach with its teeth. She growls at me in a warning, that she didn’t appreciate my move. I’m sorry, sweetheart.
Struggling to see her in pain and the smell of her blood from her wolf’s constant movement, I shift back into human form.
I walk towards her with my arms out, showing that I’m going to help her. She lets me get close, watching me the entire time until I pull the large piece of wood out and throw it to the ground. Her wound is already starting to heal and I use the opportunity to place my hands and face into her wolf’s gorgeous fur.
“Shift Evelyn!” I command and her wolf shifts back leaving the naked beauty in my arms.
