Reuben POV
He sent those flowers to annoy me! He was such a prick. If I wasn’t already in a bad mood from Elspeth constantly calling the beta Daddy…then I was now from the bouquet of flowers.
I also caught Vicky trying to climb into my bed this morning before I kicked her out. I mean what the hell? Were people deliberately trying to frustrate me?
I stormed out of the kitchen, the flowers being the final straw. I needed to head up training anyway with Nate now off site.
Why was Candice here? I couldn’t refuse her entry to the pack, she grew up here and had family here…but shit, talk about bad timing! She also had a way of angering Vicky which usually secretly amused me, but not today.
Even Cassandra was acting strangely Now I also had the Blue Moon beta sniffing around, what the hell was going on? It seemed my house wasn’t even mine anymore.
was harder on my warriors at training than I had been in a long time. As soon as they lined up in front of me to begin, I took my top off challenging them to try and take me down.
I had ten against one at one point, yet I still knocked them all down to the ground. My wolf still not satisfied enough.
I was sexually frustrated and Evelyn’s enticing scent wasn’t helping. Her cherry blossom and sea salt scent was following me around the alpha house, putting thoughts into my head.
“Go see the doctors.” I growled at a warrior whose arm I had broken.
“I’m fine, Alpha.” He tries to get back in on the fight but I wasn’t a prick like my father. He would have happily of broken the warrior’s other arm just to prove a point.
“Are you disobeying an order?” I release my aura onto him. My warriors were strong and any other alpha they would fight the command, it’s how I’ve trained them. But my aura is that of a king.
His neck submits to my command before he walks off in the direction of the medical centre, shoulders sagged and head down. They were the best of the best because they were hard on themselves and strived for perfection.
I turn to my warriors, readying to restart another group sparring match. My wolf was still
unsatisfied and I needed to work off this internal frustration.
“Don’t you want to know why I am here?” Candice catches me up in the courtyard as I walk back from training. I was covered in sweat, mud and blood and needed a long hot shower.
“I’ve learnt with you, that it’s best not to ask!” I flatly say. Did I want to know why she was here?
I keep walking, not stopping until she calls my name and expects me to stay in the courtyard with her. All I want to do is have a shower in my own house.
“Reuben!”
“What?” I growl, each time she returns I forget how annoying she could be.
“I had a phone call from a very upset Cassandra!”
“Oh?” That surprises me, I thought she was getting on okay. Well until Evelyn and her entourage arrived. She has been acting a little off since then.
“Yes, it took me a while to calm her down until she could actually form a sentence.”
“She can leave if she wants, I don’t have time for emotional females in my house.” I grunt.
That was a benefit of Vicky, she had no emotions and I didn’t waste my days hearing about female things non stop.
“She’s found her mate!”
“She has?” My eyes snap up to her slightly, a little bit more intrigued.
“Yes and he’s here…in this pack.” Candice can’t seem to hold her excitement.
She’s been here for a while now, why has it taken her so long to find him. I suppose she was keeping to the alpha house probably a bit too much. She was housed in a pack house next to Míchelle, but she was always here early and left late. Especially more so of late.
“Candice I don’t have time for pack gossip.” I seethe before heading back towards my office in the alpha house. I hadn’t heard from Nate yet and I was growing slightly concerned.
“It’s Noah!” She whispers as she runs up behind me.
I freeze on the spot. What was Noah?
“Her mate, it’s Noah!” She smirks as she clears my confusion. (1
“Wait…what? Noah is her mate?” My eyes widen in surprise.
“The one and only. Leaving Evelyn…” She looks like a cat that got the cream.
“Don’t.” I growl at her.
“Leaving Evelyn free to claim.” She doesn’t listen to me and carries on making suggestive remarks.
“No..”
“Why not, she’s already the mother to your children right?” She raises an eyebrow at me.
“How do you know?”
“I make it my business to know. So, she told you?”
“Yes, she told me. But only because she hasn’t kept my son safe.” My chest rattles from a deep growl.
“That’s not fair Reuben, if she was in the same car she would be dead too.”
My body turns cold, I didn’t like the prospect of Evelyn being dead. Even seeing her hurt at the warehouse was a sight I wouldn’t want to repeat.
“You keep this to yourself.” I warn, my wolf coming forward and adding more aura onto my
command. She whimpers under my command but easily submits.
I’m not sure whether that was because of my aura or because she actually cared for Evelyn and Elspeth.
Judging by the nickname Elspeth gave Candice, they had created quite a bond with one another.
“I wouldn’t say anything, she is my Alpha!” She scowls at me for applying the command on to her.
“Yet I was your first Alpha, don’t forget that Candice. Your loyalty was meant to be to me.”
“Alpha?” One of my head warriors pushes on iny mind–link.
“Yes?” I snap back.
“An Alpha Pierce is at the pack gates wanting access to the central grounds?”
You’ve got to be shitting me.
“A problem?” Candice picks up on my rising anger
“Just fucking men that keep wanting to touch my wife.” I murmur under my breath from anger but she hears me. Of course she does
“Someone should, she won’t stay free for much longer.”
“I told you, I don’t know who he was!” I repeat for the tenth time, my voice becoming more aggressive from his repetitive questioning.
“Reuben, I had a very real security breach problem. Not only a nobody apparently, but two alphas
entered my lands….”
“So that’s what this is about?”
“What?”
“Evelyn, you want to speak to Evelyn?”
He can’t help himself. His Hollywood pearly white grin erupts on his face at the mention of her
name.
“I mean if she’s still here…”
“Unbelievable.” I shake my head at him. He had no shame.
I stand up from my desk to open my office door to see where she is when a thought crossed my
mind.
“Before I call her in, you said something at the hospital that has had me thinking.”
“Oh yes?” He places his fingers together, as if pondering.
“You said you thought that I had killed Evelyn, why did you say that?”
“I don’t know, that’s what I had heard. That you killed her and set fire to the pack house and pack members.” He acts as if this wasn’t the most shocking revelation. That Lkilled my wife and her pack in the fire?
My mobile starts ringing in my pocket and I take it out to check the caller ID.
Thank fuck!
“Nate?”
“Reuben, we’ve made it to the quarry but something has spooked them. They must have left a few
hours before we arrived.”
“You think they were there?”
“Yes!” He firmly replies.
“How can you be so sure?”
“Is Alpha Evelyn near you?”
“No…why?” I stop myself from swallowing, pure fear had me by the throat.
“There are child clothes here, boy clothes that have been abandoned. I would say the ones he wore when they captured him.”
Fuck!
“It looks like they’ve been hiding him in a shipping container.”
My son in a shipping container? Furry takes over me, the red hot kind. Who ever dared to touch my child, I will fucking castrate them.
“Are you still there?” My voice is hard to keep at an even tone.
“No, we followed a trail and are still hot on it. There’s a small village ten miles from us and we think they are holding up there for the night.”
“Nate, send me the location and I’ll keep you updated of my approach. Don’t do anything until I am with you. Do you understand?” This was vital.
“Yes Alpha!”
I open the office door not caring that it bangs into the wall.
“Where’s Evelyn?” I ask as I walk into the kitchen, pierce now behind me.
“Right here!” She stands up from the kitchen table where she is doing some maths work with
Elspeth. I suppose I didn’t search the room upon entry.
“What’s wrong?” Her face pales of all colour as she must take in my appearance.
“We have a lead, I need to leave…now!”
