Reuben POV
“So this is the Luna of the Red Stone pack….I thought she was dead?” Alpha Pierce’s eyes narrow at me.
“So did I.” He looks at me strangely for a moment, a look that seemed to be trying to read me. Now wasn’t the time to discuss my marital problems with this prick. Evelyn needed help….fast.
“She needs a hospital.” I growl, my patience beyond thin at this moment. “Here….hold her in the back. I’ll drive you to my pack hospital.”
“Just a human hospital will be fine.” I demand, I didn’t want to enter his inner pack grounds and for him to start using this for political status.
“Good idea! How about you tell them she is a werewolf and will heal soon enough…how will you get around that!” His sarcasm pissing me off.
“Piss off!” I snarl at him.
“I’ll make sure she’s looked after….keys?” He throws his hand behind him, reaching me in the back seat. I was holding on to Evelyn tightly, conscious that another bang to the head might detriment her healing even more.
“Fine, take it slow!” I growl as I pass him my keys.
“One dent and you are fixing it!” I hated other people driving this car, it was my prized possession.
It didn’t take long to reach his pack grounds. He clearly announced our arrival prior to reaching the gates as they were wide open, he must be concerned for Evelyn too.
He drives us directly to the hospital where a gurney was already waiting for us, along with doctors and hospital staff: (1)
My wolf didn’t want to hand her over at first, to give them control over her body. Things were getting more and more confusing the more time I spent with her. Just the thought of her attacker out there, even hurting Rex was doing things to my head.
“What the hell happened?” Pierce asked as his hospital team led her away for assessment.
“She got attacked…”
“No, I mean…I thought she was dead.” He lowers his voice to me.
“You know, the Luna…that you killed her.”
“What? Where did you hear that?” Many thought she had died, as had I. But I hadn’t heard that I was apparently responsible for her death.
“Pack members gossip, I don’t know…it reached my ears a few years ago.”
“No of course not!” I growl at him.
“Well obviously not, now that she is alive.” He rolls his eyes at me.
“She was at my pack last night and left to meet someone for vital information. He attacked her.”
“Did you see his face?”
“No, he buggered off before I could see him properly.” I reach for my pocket for a cigarette. I could really do with one right now but I had kept them in my desk drawer to prevent the temptation.
“Here..” He passes a packet of cigarettes out, offering me one.
I take one and the lighter. Once the cigarette was lit I took a deep drag on it, before breathing out my frustration.
“Thanks!”
He looks at me again, his head tilting as if not sure if I was being genuine right now. My Alpha King reputation was impressive, I was meant to be ruthless and bad tempered. I liked those
rumours.
“Come on, I’ll take you to her.” He gestures his hand, leading me to the hospital.
“But no smoking inside.” He warns.
He leads me to an empty patient room which he says has been assigned for Evelyn already. What was he playing at? He was letting me walk around the hospital, gaining possible information on his pack status. What game was he playing?
Maybe he had something to do with Rex disappearance after all. I had to be careful whilst in his pack and keep a close eye on Evelyn.
Our feud went back years, since we were young boys. I think it started over a girl…but both being proud pricks it escalated further. Thinking about it, why did he seem to think I had killed Evelyn?
I didn’t have time to dwell on the matter, his doctors had brought her gurney in with her still unconscious. I watch them wire her up to a machine and place tubes into the back of her hand
“Alphas, she is healing well. She should wake up soon. Her blood levels are already recovering. I must say she has excellent healing abilities…almost like an…‘
“Alpha!” I finish the doctors sentence.
“I’ll come back after finishing my rounds.” The doctor nods before leaving the room with his staff.
I remain standing, eager to get off this pack and get her back to my own pack hospital. I watch Pierce with a glare as he strolls over to her bedside, taking her in again. His hand goes to touch her face but a warning growl from me stops his hand mid air.
“Who is she?” He demands, keeping his back to me.
“She’s the Luna…”
“Even a luna can’t heal like this. Who is she really?” He turns to look at me with a mirroring glare.
“Reuben, I have a right to know who I am taking care of…”
“You aren’t, your doctors are. Don’t give me that shit Pierce.” I snarl, walking closer to the bed. My wolf not liking his closeness to her whilst she was vulnerable.
“What shit? You are on my pack grounds. I could have killed you both the moment you exited that
warehouse.”
“Then why haven’t you?” He’s still just as arrogant, thinking he stood a chance against me.
“Her I like. She’s very attractive…far too attractive to be married to you. You, I’m still debating.”
“Like you’d stand a chance!” I huff as I cross my arms around my chest.
“For all I know this could be an elaborate attempt to gain information on my pack…I’m being very trusting here.”
He was right. But could I trust him? I suppose only time will tell.
“She’s the Alpha of the Silver Moon pack!” I sigh out, reluctantly sharing this information. She’s going to hate me even more than she already does now.
“Impossible, that’s a male…” Pierce shakes his head in disbelief.
“Well I don’t see a dick on her…”
“Hang on…” He puts his hands up in the air to stop me from talking further.
“So the alpha that built a rebellion alliance against yours is not only a female…but also your wife?” He bursts out into laughter, finding his own fucking words hilarious. 1
“I’m glad you find this so funny.”
“Ah man, it’s just….”
“A mess!” I sigh out, taking a seat on the hospital chair next to Evelyn.
“Fitting.” He sarcastically beams at me before dropping his smile.
“Who was she meeting?”
“I don’t know…she left my pack in the night after being sent an address.”
“What for?”
“Pierce…don’t push it!”
“Fine, but remember you owe me now. I like the Alpha King being indebted to me.” There’s that
prick of a smile again.
“As soon as she’s awake we will leave. But I need you to keep our visit a secret…no one must know
we were here.”
“Why?”
“I have my reason.” I spread my chest out to remind him just who exactly was Alpha King. Evelyn’s phone starts to ring from my pocket, I pull it out to see Noah is the caller.
“I’ll let you get that.” Pierce offers before he leaves the room.
Evelyn POV
“I’m not telling you where we are!” I could hear Reuben growl to someone, it sounded like he was on the phone judging by the muffled response of the other person.
“She’s fine, as soon as she wakes up I’ll bring her back. Yes Noah…don’t fucking push it. She wanted you with Elspeth so do as your alpha commands.” I open my eyes to see him cut the call
as he stood near the room door, looking out into a corridor. Where exactly was I?
“Reuben?” My voice is hoarse, it was sore and sounded it.
“Evelyn?” He looks up at me with a frown before walking towards the bed. What the heck was wrong with me? I had clearly been injured yet his walk was doing things to me again. It wasn’t helping that his scent was lingering in this room, he had clearly been here the entire time I had.
“What’s going on? Have you found him?” I allow my heart to spike a little in anticipation for the news Rex had been found but his frown as he sat in the chair next to me, informed me otherwise.
“Then why are you here? Why aren’t you out there searching?” My voice rises from irritation, why was he here? He didn’t need to pretend that he cared, he needed to find our son.
“Evelyn, you were badly injured. I had to make sure you were okay. There was a lot of blood.” “You need to find him Reuben, I need to find him…” I state as I start to climb out of the hospital bed.
“Evelyn you’ve only just woken up.” He growls at me with a warning. “I need to find him.” I manage to get my feet onto the floor and stand up.
“And we will….” He moves fast, blocking me from in front, trying to coerce me back into bed.
“Reuben! You’ve known about him for two days. He’s been mine for four years. I’m not taking orders from you, so get out of my way.” I push at his chest but he doesn’t move, he remains pure muscle in front of me.
“Don’t make me hurt you!” I growl into his face.
“You can’t sweetheart but I’d like to see you try.” He smirks before he catches my fist half way through the air. The fist that I aimed to hit his chin.
