I step forward looking at the photos of the dead soldiers, more than I actually expected. Fuck, how did Vicky get a hold of them?
“What is this?”
“Those are the soldiers we took down. Some are in holding but we had to kill a few.”
“This isn’t just a few soldiers Pierce, this is two to three squads…”
“You think I would have left your family, my mate for a pathetic threat?”
He snarls at me coldly, he was angry… angry at Vicky, angry at Liberty, angry at himself.
Although I was taken aback by his outburst, I don’t answer him, my anger at him decreasing knowing just how big of a threat he managed to eliminate with his men. The human soldiers were sent to kill, the weapons and armour were a clear indicator. He saved us from losing this battle.
I redirect the topic by looking at the maps, he was clearly looking for Liberty. Fuck! I found being away from Evelyn for four years the toughest of my life. I didn’t even know back then that she was still alive and even my fated mate. He knows, and now he has to decide whether to find her or continue on with his life without her.
“Evelyn is awake…” He has been blaming himself for everything and I need to at least put his mind at ease over Evelyn. His shoulders relax slightly at the news.
“That’s good. I’m glad she’ll be okay.” His voice is still cold, but he is trying to show how relieved his is. His mind is just elsewhere at the moment.
“Look…” I start but am interrupted when Pierce stands up abruptly and pushes all of the maps on to the floor with a low growl.
His wolf is needing an outlet for his internal anger and I’m not here to stop him. I watch silently as he trashes Evelyn’s office, letting him get his emotions out.
I’ll have time to make sure Evelyn’s office is straightened back out…that any furniture is fixed before she returns. But right now Pierce needed this for his own sanity. He needs to shift but I’m assuming his own wolf is also punishing him and shutting him off from shifting.
His eyes turn on me, the anger demon within him wanting a fight…most likely wanting me to put him out of his misery by punching him unconscious. But I don’t react to his behaviour, he was hurting and hurting him would be an unkind thing to do.
He finally stops, his eyes closing as he tries to slow down his breathing, a loud sigh escaping him.
“I was too harsh on Liberty, I can see that now.” I offer, because deep down it’s now how I feel. My actions perhaps ostracised her slightly, where really she needed more support.
She was young and had only found out about our kind. That she was half werewolf, half human and had been drugged since she was thirteen. My actions drove her away. I should have been more understanding, seen her side of things more.
“She was wrong to help Malcolm escape and she knew it. If Evelyn hadn’t ..” His words cut out, him not wanting to say it and me not wanting to hear it. If Evelyn hadn’t survived it would have killed Liberty too. I have no doubt about that.
“Evelyn’s pregnant…I just found out. It’s why she couldn’t shift. Liberty saved her and our baby’s life.”
“Pregnant? Woah…I’m pleased for you my brother.” He claps his hand on my shoulder, putting his own torment aside for my happiness.
“I’ve lost her, I can feel it. My wolf can feel it.”
“Then we will find her, together. Whatever it takes!”
