Reuben POV
“Reuben?” Pierce runs in to the shipping container, his eyes reminding me of the severity of the scene before us.
His eyes snap to my mate laying on the floor covered in my bite marks. He looks horrified of the scene before him. My wolf greeting him instead of my human form.
“Get me clothes now!” He orders at some of his men behind him before rushing to my side. I could feel her, I could feel her pulse humming through my veins, our connection almost complete.
With every lick, every love bite I gave, her body was growing stronger. My saliva lending its healing qualities on to her as well as complimenting her own.
“She needs the hospital….” Noah commands but my wolf growls, there was no way she was going to Silver Moon tonight. My pack was nearest, she would come home with me.
“Reuben, shift!” Pierce barks at me throwing clothes to my side. He could tell that my wolf’s energy levels were depleting from healing Evelyn. The strength I was giving into her was coming directly from me. I could feel my energy reducing, my wolf struggling
“I need to get her home…” Noah mutters to Cassandra which irritated my wolf to the point of submitting back to my skin form. I shift back, throwing on loose shorts and a T-shirt as I remained by her side.
“She’s coming home with me!” I command, my jaw tense as I watch her breathing settle into a more comfortable rhythm but still not strong enough. She was still in a bad way.
“Reuben…”
“She is my mate, I have claimed her as mine. She will come back to Red Stone. You can be a prick about it all you want, you can head up her recovery in my medical centre and run the team but make no mistake, she’s coming home with me. As are my children.” I place my arm around Rex’s shoulders, pulling him closely to me.
“The rogue?” Nate asks me as my men had of course apprehended him and are currently holding him in a tight body lock.
My eyes flash, my wolf’s energy returning to him, fuelled by what I want to do to him.
“Take him back in a separate vehicle and keep him in a highly secure cell. I don’t want him anywhere near my children. Four guards on watch at a time. If you value your lives you best make sure he is secure.” I command, my kingly aura rolling off me and onto Nate and my warriors.
“What about Vicky?” Rex’s voice asks not at all cowering from my alpha aura.
“Vicky was here?” I need to confirm what he just said. “Yes and your Father… the man that visited the pack last night.”
“After them..” I roar out.
“…they will be long gone but find out where that fucking passage exits!”
“Yes Alpha!” A few of my warriors head into the passageway, searching for any clues, any idea of where they might have fled to.
So Father and Vicky attacked Evelyn’s convoy last night. Risking my mate… risking my children in a game of power?
“Where’s Elspeth?” Rex pulls at my arm, his eyes wide with worry, needing to know she is close near by.
“She’s fine Rex, she’s with Harry.” Pierce responds for me as Noah injects Evelyn with some sort of medicine, yet not telling me what it is. Which leads me to snatch the vial off him to inspect.
“Damn it Noah, my wolf is on edge here. Next time you inject our mate with something, tell me first unless you like the idea of eating without teeth.” My frustration levels were beyond high with him right now.
Here was my mate whom I had just marked with another man’s hands all over her.
“What did they want?” I sigh out to Rex, trying to calm my aggressive state. Rex doesn’t answer me at first but looks to Noah for reassurance. Noah shakes his head, it must be bad if Noah is telling my son not to tell me.
“Rex?” I push.
“He wanted to mark Mum, to make her his Luna and combine both alliances….”
“And?” I could feel my body shaking already, the anger within me trying to break out like a hot steam that couldn’t be withheld any longer.
“..and have heirs.” Cassandra whispers behind me, Noah refusing to say and Rex not understanding the sinister suggestion behind that idea. He was only four.
I want to kill him. I want to kill him with my bare hands. My own father would betray me, betray the moon goddess so wickedly?
I stand up, my new mission was clear. I needed to find him and end his life. No one dare threaten my mate, suggest something so unnatural. So sinister.
Before I know it I have made it to the entrance of the secret passageway. My desire to eliminate that threat, no matter who it may be, from her life.
I don’t even realise where I am until Pierce places his hand on my shoulder, my body tense, my muscles flexed under his touch.
“No Reuben my man. Your family needs you. I will help, see what I can find out. You concentrate on getting her better.”
My wolf fighting me, I’m not sure which side wants the revenge more. Pierce walks in front of me, knowing my rage shouldn’t be witnessed by Rex at this moment.
“Don’t do this. Don’t be like him!” Pierce places his forehead to mine, his eyes burning almost through mine… trying to reason with my soul.
He was right, I wanted to be different…I am different.
“Alpha, she’s ready…” Nate calls to me from behind as Noah wants to get Evelyn out of here. “Reuben!” Nate’s voice enters my mind, trying to plead with me also.
“Dad…” But it’s Rex’s voice that soothes the growing fire within me. With a deep breath in I feel the buzz of the mate bond between Evelyn and I, it’s there.
It will be stronger, complete, when she marks me but it gives me hope, a new sense of belonging.
I walk back towards her and very gently pick her up off the floor and into my arms, Noah watching me the entire time. She’s the most important thing to me dick, except for the kids, I’m not going to drop her!
I carefully carry her out in my strong steady arms, our warriors, as well as the Blue Moon and Grey Howl pack’s, giving her a blessing as I carry her past them.
An alpha down, female or male, they were allies, they wanted to wish her a speedy recovery, to give her their blessings.
“Mummy? Rex?” Elspeth gasps as she stands near a car that is empty for us to use. She is still clutching on to bunny tightly, as she also clings onto Harry’s top.
She runs to Rex, flinging her arms around his neck, her sobs starting again.
“I could sense you were okay, I could feel it. But Mummy felt in pain. Daddy!” She parts from Rex and runs to Noah, draping her arms around his neck as he picks her up.
“She’s going to be okay princess. I need to get her to the hospital…” He says trying to put her down.
“No Daddy don’t leave me..” She starts to sob, my heartbreaking for what she has been through, for what she has witnessed and thankfully not witnessed.
“It’s fine, I’ll drive Noah.” Nate offers as one of Evelyn’s warriors throws him the car keys. As if we were all working as one pack.
“Reuben, hold Evelyn steady in the back.” Nate demands as her doctor, as I fight the urge to make a snide response by biting down on my tongue. He was worried about her and had every right to be.
I climb into the back seat, gently pulling Evelyn into the back with me. Not letting her go once. Keeping her safe on my lap…in my arms where she belongs. Where she always belonged.
“I’ll go with Donnie…” Rex says as Elspeth climbs into the front with Noah, on his lap.
“No, you stay where I can see you.” I order at him. After what they’ve been through, what we’ve been through to get them back, he was not leaving my eyes sight ever again. Both of them never would.
“Noah…I’ll drive ahead with Donnie and Harry. I’ll get a medical room ready for you.” Cassandra appears at Noah’s window, knowing Nate would need to drive slowly but that Noah wasn’t ready to leave Evelyn, she still might need medical assistance on the journey.
“Thank you Cassandra, whatever you can find, use. My medical centre and staff are under your authority.”
“Thank you Alpha Reuben.”
