136. A Startling Realization
The Next Day, at StriveStyle Co. Heidi and Isla were packing her stuff inside some boxes, the atmosphere lively and blissful.
“Ms. Olsen, every employee in this brand is saddened, you know. They all wish they could come along.”
“I’m also saddened to leave this place.” Heidi let out a soft laugh. “But duty calls.”
“Congratulations, Princess!” Zach barged into the office, startling everyone. “I heard about the big promotion and had to leave the comfort of my Villa to personally congratulate you! I always knew you would be victorious.”
He pulled her into a hug, squeezing her tightly and Heidi gasped for breath.
“I thought you left the country for real.” Heidi pushed away.
“Nah!” Zach laughed. “I’ve been taking my time recovering at home and having the fun of my life until I heard the news. By the way, I have some mind -blowing news to share with you.”
He sat Heidi down on the couch, sitting beside her.
“What news?” His big mischievous smile made Heidi uncomfortable, anticipating what he was going to say.
Zach scowled. “It’s about the bitchy mistress of your ex-husband. Didn’t I promise you I’ll dig into it and see how she knows of your illness?”
“What did you find?”
Heidi would never forget that incident. Tracy’s actions were too much of a coincidence.
Zach cleared his throat. “As it turned out, Tracy didn’t go to the same high school as you; your prediction was correct. However, the high school she attended once had an inter-school competition with your school.”
“Is that so?” Now Heidi no longer needed to wrack her brain further. “It was during that competition that I drowned in the water after saving Lucas.”
“Did Tracy perhaps witness me saving Lucas?” She pondered. “Or probably, she was in that village’s clinic too and overheard the doctors discussing my illness.”
It was just too confusing.
“Don’t worry, Heidi. I can kidnap that bitch, torture her, and make her spill everything out.”
That was an easy thing for Zach to do. ” And I have a perfect plan to execute that ”
Zach hadn’t finished speaking when a gasp echoed in the office.
Isla let out a tiny scream, and her hand flew to her chest, staring at her tablet’s screen wide-eyed.
“What’s wrong, Isla?” Heidi couldn’t help but laugh at the girl’s ghastly expression. “Did you come across a horror movie?”
“Ms. Olsen, this is more scary than a horror movie.” Isla brought her tablet forward and showed Heidi the piece of news flashing on it.
On the headline was an announcement of Tracy’s pregnancy extracted from a secret source.
Heidi stilled, her smile faltering.
For a few moments, no one spoke in the office. Then Zach broke the silence!
“Shit! How long is she pregnant? Was that scumbag banging his mistress while pretending to want Heidi back?”
Heidi’s expression fell, looking dazed and confused. The question Zach should ask was if Lucas was sleeping with her and Tracy at the same time.
The answer was obvious and something tugged at Heidi’s heartstrings, a gut – wrenching pain engulfing her heart.
“Hey, Heidi. Are you alright?” Zach asked worriedly.
“You’ve turned pale, Ms. Olsen. I- Maybe, we should go to the hospital.”
It’s no surprise that the news was too sudden and devastating, thinking that it hadn’t been that long since the divorce.
Heidi returned to her senses, masking the thousands of emotions in her heart with an indifferent look on her face.
“I’m fine, Guys. Don’t worry.” She got to her feet and unpacked her remaining things inside the boxes, her actions rapid.
Zach exchanged glances with Isla and they decided to let go of the topic which wasn’t worth discussing.
To chase the gloom and awkwardness away, Zach came up with a new topic.
“Now that you’re leaving this brand, who do you think is suitable for StriveStyle Co.’s CEO position?”
Heidi sealed the boxes with cello tape. ” Isla is the best candidate. She knows the ins and outs of how I operate things, she can carry on the job smoothly.”
“Uhm, Ms. Olsen…” Isla should be jumping in excitement, on the contrary, she looked sad. “Can you please take me along? I’m still learning and would love to continue as your assistant. Managing the CEO’s position is a huge responsibility.”
“If that’s the case, how about you still manage StriveStyle Co. while settling down in AG Group?” Zach suggested to Heidi. “Be rest assured, I will do everything in my power to make sure the workload isn’t too much for you.”
Zach’s phone rang at that moment.
Seeing the caller’s name, his lips pulled into a sinister smile and he stood up. This is urgent. I have to pick Ruby up from the airport.”
Heidi couldn’t remember the Ruby he was referring to, but she guessed it must be one of the girls he messed around with.
“Go ahead. Isla and I are about to leave anyway.”
There were two boxes to carry, and Heidi picked up one, refusing Isla’s request to carry them both.
As they left StriveStyle Co., Heidi felt a bit gloomy while her mind flashed back to the news.
No.
Tracy’s pregnancy was none of her business. She shouldn’t think about insignificant things.
Heidi shoved the thoughts aside, stepping into the elevator. Yet, her thoughts went back to the news again and again, the headline flashing in her mind.
As they left the elevator and stepped into the parking lot, standing by a sleek black car was the tall figure of a man, seemingly waiting for her.
The box almost dropped from Heidi’s hand, staring at Lucas Harrison.
