Han Muzi felt her heart clamoring in her chest as she stared motionlessly at Ye Moxuan. His question felt like he was deliberately probing at her. As she met his gaze, she nervously pursed her pink lips. “That… How did you come to that conclusion?”
Ye Moxuan’s breath blew on her face as his gaze watched her gloomily. “What about you? How did you come up with such a weird question?”
It seemed like he had asked that question in response to her earlier question. She still couldn’t be certain whether he knew or not, however, since he hadn’t said a word about it, there was a high probability that he was still unaware. She shook her head. “It’s nothing; I was just curious.” Then, she grabbed his hand and continued, “But, seriously speaking, if one day, you found out about something you can’t accept, you have to listen to my explanation first, alright?”
Ye Moxuan’s gaze toward her deepened noticeably, carrying a sense of careful consideration. He stared at her to the point where she found it slightly hard to breathe, then his thin lips curved up slightly. “Alright.”
Upon his agreement, Han Muzi let out a breath of relief. “Remember; you promised me.”
“Yeah.”
During her stay at the hospital, George brought Rory along to visit her. As they were coming in, they were bickering with each other. Staring at both of them, she felt rather surprised; she didn’t expect the two of them to become so familiar with each other in such a short period. I guess, when fate comes calling, you can’t stop it even if you wanted to.
After Rory asked about Han Muzi’s health and current condition, she couldn’t resist gossiping with Han Muzi. “Let me tell you this, Muzi. I’ve always thought that George was the kind of debauchee you’d hear stories about—like the ones who only cared about women and fooling around. However, I never expected him to turn out like that only because of some deep emotional trauma from the past.”
“Emotional trauma?” Hearing these two words stunned Han Muzi. She considered George’s usual demeanor and speech carefully. No matter how much she thought about it, he didn’t seem to fit the words ‘emotional trauma’.
“That’s right, that’s right! Didn’t the President carry you away the other day? After that, I went along with George. George and that Duanmu Xue… Ugh—” Before Rory could finish her sentence, her mouth was forcefully gagged by someone else.
It turned out George had eavesdropped on what Rory was saying. When he heard her gossiping about his personal affairs, he rushed over to stop her from speaking further by covering up her mouth. “What—ugh… Let… go…”
He covered her mouth as he tried to drag her outside, all the while smiling at Han Muzi. “Muzi, don’t listen to her nonsense. This girl is super nosy, and she likes to exaggerate too. You shouldn’t believe whatever she just said to you.”
Rory struggled against him as he dragged her out, but her strength couldn’t rival his. In the end, she was so mad she lifted her foot and stomped down on his foot. George widened his eyes in pain; it hurt so much he couldn’t even make a sound.
Seizing her chance while he was in pain, she pushed him away. “If you don’t want me to talk about it then so be it. Why do you have to get physical with me? Don’t you know there’s a physical difference between men and women? Should I report you for harassment?”
George was in so much pain he couldn’t even formulate a reply.
Their bickering created a disturbance in the hospital room and it became lively and energetic. However, Ye Moxuan, who was reading on his laptop by the side, only felt that they were being rowdy. He unwittingly frowned as he looked over at them and his thin lips twitched. Just as he was about to reprimand them for making a cacophony, he caught sight of Han Muzi’s cheerful profile. Over the past two days, while staying in the hospital room, her complexion hadn’t been bad, but she seemed a little lifeless. Now that Rory and George were creating a ruckus here, she seemed a little more energetic compared to before.
Perhaps, she enjoys this atmosphere? As he pondered over it, his hostility faded away and his eyes returned to the laptop screen. Forget it; since she enjoys it, then they can continue with their nonsense. It may be a little loud, but at least she likes it.
George and Rory bickered between themselves for a long while before they noticed that Han Muzi wasn’t the only person in the hospital room—there was another powerful presence. They shut their mouths at the same time, then looked over in Ye Moxuan’s direction.
Oh no. We were being overly excited just now. They had forgotten that there was such a terrifying person in the room too. We were being so loud and rambunctious just now; did we disturb him?
As the thought went through their minds, Ye Moxuan lifted his gaze and stared at them as if he could sense what they were thinking. His gaze was icy; just one glance was enough to make the soles of their feet cold.
Rory subconsciously moved her feet and shrank back behind George. Her body was small—she was short and slim. On the other hand, George was big and strong. Hiding behind him blocked her out of Ye Moxuan’s sight entirely.
George was left to meet Ye Moxuan’s gaze alone. A stiff smile appeared on his lips. “That, uh, Yuchi, we weren’t being noisy on purpose. We were just trying to cheer Muzi up! Right, Muzi?” He then looked over at Han Muzi and cast a pleading look at her.
Han Muzi, thinking that they were a pair of clowns, nodded her head in agreement. “Yeah, I don’t mind. He won’t mind it either, so don’t worry.”
Ye Moxuan was moved by her words. His gaze fell on her face subconsciously. It just so happened that she glanced over too; her clean and clear eyes were like spring water—devoid of impurities—and carried only tender affection. Was there any man on Earth who could stand against the woman he loved as she gazed at him like that? He swallowed a few times and his eyes darkened. After a moment, he shifted his gaze away with difficulty and coldly said, “I don’t mind, but you can leave now.”
At the sound of ‘I don’t mind’, George’s face had lighted up with joy, but his expression fell again not a moment later. As a man, how could he not notice what Ye Moxuan’s gaze and actions meant? It was obvious he could barely restrain his desires toward Han Muzi, so he was trying to drive them out now. Hmph, I refuse to go along with your wishes.
He looked toward Han Muzi. “Muzi, since it’s such a rare chance for us to be here, wouldn’t it be such a waste if we just left like this? Why don’t we stay for a little longer and join you guys for lunch?”
Lunch? If there were so many people, it would be lively. Han Muzi nodded. She was just about to answer when Ye Moxuan stood up and coldly cut in. “Should I move the entire restaurant here for you too?”
George’s smile stiffened. Rory, who was hiding behind him, didn’t even dare to breathe. Ye Moxuan’s glare just now was far too terrifying.
Ye Moxuan had already walked over; Han Muzi pulled at his shirt, hinting for him to dial back on his hostility. Instead, he caught her wrist and held it in his palm. “The caretaker is coming over to deliver the food later. Are you sure you want to stay here and watch us eat?”
George said nothing. He could tell what Ye Moxuan was thinking—he just wanted to be alone with Han Muzi and wanted the third-wheelers gone. At first, he wanted to continue going against Ye Moxuan. However, after thinking it over, he decided against it. Would he still be able to have a good life in the future if he offended Ye Moxuan?
At that exact moment, Rory pulled at George’s shirt and suggested timidly. “Why don’t we go out for lunch?”
