That sentence left Duanmu Xue completely dumbstruck. Not once did she ever imagine someone would say that to her. Did she just ask me to die?
Her eyes widened in disbelief as she looked at Song An. “W-What did you say?” she asked with trembling lips.
Song An cast a sidelong glance at her and smirked in amusement. “What? You can’t understand something so simple? I’m just wondering since you don’t seem like an ignorant person. How could you not have gotten that? You were even able to pull off such a lowly scheme.”
That last remark suddenly made Duanmu Xue short of breath. She leaned back automatically and gripped the blanket tightly as she lowered her eyes—too afraid to look at Song An. Song An’s words clearly showed that she knew what Duanmu Xue did. But how does she know? Who is she?
Song An crossed her arms and provoked, “What’s wrong? I haven’t even said anything yet. Why are you backing away? You’re making it look like I’m bullying you. Way to go at playing the victim here.” Then, she paused for a moment and looked back at Yuchi Jin. “It’s no wonder the Yuchi Family’s old man is all riled up because of you.”
Yuchi Jin felt a rush of adrenaline seeing Song An standing in front of him in one piece and speaking so eloquently. Her words were disdainful, but she was still his little girl whom he had not seen in years. At that moment, he could not deal with Duanmu Xue’s feelings. The only person he saw was his little girl. When he heard his name, he fiddled with his nose and opened his mouth to say something.
However, Song An went on with her remarks. “You’re Duanmu Xue, aren’t you? I can’t believe the Duanmu Family is still causing trouble after all these years. As a young woman, don’t you feel ashamed of yourself for doing something like this?”
After finding out that Ye Moxuan was drugged and that Han Muzi almost had a miscarriage from being worried sick, Song An’s temper rose to unbearable heights. She was unable to hold back her anger at that point. Usually, she still treated those younger than her in a civilized manner and did not humiliate them even if she did not like them. After all, they were young and full of tenacity. They were allowed to act irrationally as long as they learned from their mistakes. However, Duanmu Xue’s actions went beyond what was acceptable to her and the victim was her very own sister’s son. She was not able to hold back any longer. Therefore, she berated Duanmu Xue without any sense of remorse—poking at every raw nerve and aiming at every weak spot.
When Duanmu Xue heard all of that, she quickly became flustered and shook her head while backing away. “W-What are you talking about? I don’t get any of it. Don’t come close… I don’t understand what you’re saying.”
Song An looked at her sideways. Tsk. Look at her playing the victim again.
Duanmu Xue was not going to admit to anything. It did not matter what the woman in front of her knew as long as Grandfather Yuchi believed her. She did not plan on ever admitting to her wrongdoings anyway.
Song An knew exactly what Duanmu Xue was getting up to and turned to Yuchi Jin right away. “The housekeepers have already confessed to everything earlier downstairs, yet you’re going to act oblivious now that everyone is gone? Or are you pitying this young and beautiful girl just because she cried a few tears and said a few things to conciliate you?”
Her words… Yuchi Jin frowned and finally pulled himself together. He let out, “An…”
An… The affectionate way in which he said her name suddenly made her pupils contract. She stepped back in horror and yelled, “Don’t call me that!” Her emotions were evoked and she spitted out vehemently, “You have no right!”
Duanmu Xue, who was sitting on the bed furrowed her eyebrows as she heard their conversation. As Yuchi Jin was the only person she could rely on in the Yuchi Family, she reached out to pull on the edge of his shirt and called softly, “Grandfather Yuchi…”
Perhaps she had pulled too lightly or spoken too softly, for Yuchi Jin did not acknowledge her or even looked back at her at the very least. He just stared blankly at Song An. His tears inevitably fell after her outburst.
Upon seeing him like that, Song An felt a sense of unfamiliarity and further stepped two steps back. In a cold voice, she said, “Are you losing your memory? Did you forget how to speak? I’m warning you. You’re not allowed to call me that again!”
He recollected himself again and smiled, “Okay. Anything you say, An. It’s all good now that you’re home.”
Song An was speechless. On the other hand, Duanmu Xue was dumbfounded to see Yuchi Jin lose himself like that and to see him disregard her completely.
That woman looked domineering to her. She gave her an earful right as she walked in and told her off for being shameless. When she wanted to look to Yuchi Jin for help, he was no longer paying any attention to her anymore. Could she be…
Suddenly, Yuchi Jin looked at Yu Bo who was standing in the doorway and urged, “Yu Bo, hurry and get someone to prepare a room for her to stay. Then—”
Yu Bo was about to nod when Song An cut in in a loud voice, “There’s no need.” She glanced at Yuchi Jin briefly then looked away and said coldly, “I didn’t come to live here and I don’t plan on staying either. I only came today to see how far you would go for her. Once I’ve said what I came to say, I’m going to leave.”
Duanmu Xue felt chills down her back. She found Song An glaring at her.
“You understood everything I said right? It’s not good for a woman to drive people into a corner like this. Have you heard of the saying that jealousy makes a person ugly?”
Duanmu Xue instinctively reached up to touch her cheek.
“Well, I guess you’ve experienced it for yourself since you got injured badly,” Song An mocked. Her final words sounded threatening. “But at least your face isn’t disfigured yet. If you ever have any more bad intentions in the future, you will inevitably turn out that way.”
Duanmu Xue became alarmed and frightened. She lifted her head and met Song An’s jet-black eyes that were as cold as the ice caves in the snowy mountains; she shuddered. She lowered her head once more and felt fear rising from the pit of her stomach for the first time. She did not dare to look at Song An’s eyes again.
Song An looked away with a satisfied expression then glared at Yuchi Jin briefly before proceeding with her harsh words. “If you feel like there is no point in living, then you’re free to go kill yourself if you want to. I’d just like to ask you to do it somewhere further away so you don’t bring bad luck to us.” She then continued, “Alright, I’ve said everything. I should head back to get something to eat now.”
Song An lifted her hand to look at the time on her watch. With a smirk, she started to head outside. However, she stopped suddenly as a thought occurred to her and she turned her head back to sneer at Duanmu Xue. “That’s right. I forgot to tell you. Everyone knows about you drugging Ye Moxuan, and I’ve also sent someone to inform your family.”
