The sudden development caught Duanmu Zhe and Tang Mingxi off guard as none of them had expected things to turn out in this matter. They decided to meet up here because there were not many customers. What they didn’t expect was to run into acquaintances, much less have an acquaintance come up to greet them.
Duanmu Zhe subconsciously frowned, but the patient didn’t seem to notice his expression since he continued to chat with Tang Mingxi. “I never would have expected to meet you here, Dr. Tang. Under your careful guidance previously, I’m feeling much better now.
Weren’t you practicing abroad, though? Why are you suddenly back in the country? I thought that I mistook you for someone else just now.” He grabbed onto Tang Mingxi’s hands gratefully and it was obvious that the man was one of his former patients.
There was no reason for Tang Mingxi to treat his patients badly, but this was a different situation. He had no choice but to stand up before bowing slightly at the person. “Sir, I’m not Dr. Tang. I’m afraid you are mistaken.”
The patient exclaimed in surprise, “Huh? That’s impossible! Aren’t you Dr. Tang?”
Tang Mingxi answered with a polite smile, “No, I’m not.”
The patient was astounded by the sudden revelation because he didn’t know what was going on. He glanced at Duanmu Xue and Duanmu Zhe and was greeted by an icy-cold stare from the latter. It was obvious that Duanmu Zhe was glaring at him with a warning.
The patient was speechless for a moment and he knew that he wouldn’t want to cross the man in front of him. Hence, he didn’t have the courage to comment further and turned around to leave instead. He scratched his head while walking away. “That does not make sense. I used to see him everyday last time. How could I mistake him for someone else? Maybe I should just ask around when I get home.”
After the patient left, Tang Mingxi returned to his seat with a slight smile. “Can you believe he mistook me for a doctor? Is there someone here who resembles me?”
Duanmu Zhe smiled without commenting. However, Duanmu Xue tossed her spoon aside before smirking at him. “He definitely got the wrong person, alright. You shouldn’t be a psychologist. You should be an actor instead.” With that, she stood up to leave.
“Xue, stand right there.” Duanmu Zhe broke the silence unexpectedly and looked up at Duanmu Xue coldly.
Duanmu Xue turned around with a disappointed expression when she saw her brother’s cold and detached gaze. “Zhe, didn’t you say that you are taking me out to meet your friend? It seems like you are just deceiving me. I can’t believe you brought me here to see a psychologist. I am just in love with someone, but you think that I am mentally unstable!”
Tang Mingxi didn’t expect the situation to come to an end before it could even start and shot Duanmu Xue an apologetic look. “Miss Xue, it’s not what you think. I…”
“Shut up. Don’t come any closer to me!” Duanmu Xue retreated when she saw him approaching her. Her eyes bulged with fury when she tried to explain herself, “I am not having any illness. You are the ones who are sick, which is why you brought me here to see a doctor!”
“Xue, you’re not here to see a doctor. It’s just a psychological counseling session to set you on the right path!” Duanmu Zhe stood up before speaking to her directly.
“I don’t need this! I am a normal person! I don’t need things like psychological counseling!”
“Fine, fine. You don’t need any psychological counseling, alright. In that case, I won’t introduce myself as a psychologist to you. Allow me to introduce myself as your brother’s university friend then. Let’s just be friends, alright?”
“Xue, please be obedient. I would never harm you.”
Duanmu Xue gazed at the two tall and well-built men in front of her. She couldn’t help but cackle bitterly when she thought of how she was deceived into meeting Tang Mingxi. “I’m so silly. In the beginning, I thought that my brother would understand me. Who would have thought… that you would treat me as a patient with a mental disorder?
This time, you even brought me to a psychologist… Are you sending me to a mental institution the next time? What have I done wrong? I merely fell in love… I did nothing wrong! I did nothing wrong… You are the ones who are wrong because you don’t know how it feels like to fall in love with someone!” With that, Duanmu Xue didn’t care if Duanmu Zhe was angry with her and she turned around to leave.
“Xue!” Duanmu Zhe’s expression immediately soured. He chased after her straight away and Tang Mingxi had no choice but to chase after them both. However, Duanmu Xue was in an agitated state and she ran down the stairs swiftly before disappearing from their sights.
They failed to locate her when they exited the café, which meant that Duanmu Zhe had no choice but to discuss his options with Tang Mingxi. “You take left and I’ll take right.”
“Sure.” Tang Mingxi pondered before stating in a serious voice, “She is emotionally volatile now. Do not drag her back here if you find her later. Send her back home first and tell her that you will not take her to a psychologist anymore.”
Duanmu Zhe thought he sounded convincing and he nodded in agreement. The two of them went their separate ways in search of Duanmu Xue, but after looking for her almost the entire day, they were unable to find her. Her phone was also switched off.
Tang Mingxi apologized with regret, “I’m so sorry. This is entirely my fault. I didn’t expect to bump into my former patient in the country.”
Duanmu Zhe shook his head while looking somber. His gaze was calm when he listened to the voicemail over the phone, which indicated that Duanmu Xue’s phone was switched off. “This has nothing to do with you. No one expected us to bump into your former patient here. Who would have thought that he would come up to greet you?
“That’s right.” Tang Mingxi was embarrassed. “This is such a coincidence. Your sister has been agitated. I just hope that she would not do anything foolish.”
Aggravated? Foolish? Duanmu Zhe pressed his lips into a thin line before stating in an icy tone, “Thank you for your hard work today. You should head home first and I will contact you another day.”
Tang Mingxi had nothing else to say since he had provoked Duanmu Zhe’s sister to leave in anger. Hence, he had no choice but to leave.
Once Tang Mingxi left, Duanmu Zhe phoned George. I know my younger sister very well. When it comes to doing something foolish… it’s almost impossible that she’d harm herself. However, if we are talking about harming someone else… that is completely plausible.
George almost lost his marbles when he received the news. He also ignored the fact that he was surrounded by people when he scolded Duanmu Zhe over the phone, “What is wrong with you? Didn’t you promise to do things carefully? Why did you scare your younger sister away? What are you planning to do now that she’s gone?”
Duanmu Zhe’s gaze was frosty after George’s outburst. He immediately retorted, “I’m just being kind to inform you about the sudden turn of events. However, I am not obligated to answer any of your questions.”
George spat, “Damn it!”
“If she’s well protected, no one would be able to harm her, no matter how hard they try.”
George almost fainted out of anger when he heard that. Just look at him trying to justify his actions. Just when George was about to curse Duanmu Zhe, the line went dead.
George cursed into the phone for several seconds despite the engaged tone. It was only after he vented his frustrations that he kept his phone in his pocket before leaving with his car keys. Duanmu Xue loves herself too much to harm herself. She would only harm others if she were to do something foolish. I just can’t be sure if she’d target Muzi or that brat Yuchi.
This is such a troublesome matter. Why are women so stubborn? Forget Yuchi’s adamant and constant rejections; she clearly knows that it’s a fire pit in front of her, but she just insists on jumping into the flames despite everyone else’s efforts in dragging her back!
