“After all, you aren’t close to him. I guess both of you need time to understand each other more.”
Shen Qi shook her head. “I’m not crying because of him, Linhan. You don’t have to explain anything on his behalf.
Ye Linhan was taken aback before he chuckled. “That’s good. I thought that you two fought again.”
Shen Qi didn’t reply as she slowly sipped on the bowl of soup.
She looked lovely with her head held low while her hair framed her face. Ye Linhan subconsciously lifted his hand, wanting to pat her head but paused before he could do so.
He stared at Shen Qi before glancing at his hand again and retracted it.
Right then, Ye Linhan’s phone suddenly rang, and he took it out. “You should eat up; I’ll go out to take this call.”
“Alright.”
Shen Qi felt much more at ease after he left.
Although Ye Linhan was very nice to her, Shen Qi still felt somewhat uncomfortable as she wasn’t really close to him after all.
Now that he had left, she could finally turn around to eat.
After a while, Ye Linhan came back in. “Shen Qi, I’ll be going back to the company to attend to some emergencies. The maids will take care of it after you finish up, and I’ll get a driver to send you back to the Ye residence after this.”
Shen Qi’s face changed when she heard that something happened at the company. “I-I haven’t applied for leave from the company today…”
“Moxuan won’t mind since you’re already sick. You should get some rest.”
Shen Qi only realized that something was wrong after Ye Linhan left.
She was his brother’s wife—his sister-in-law. As such, how could she still stay at his house? Not to mention that Ye Moxuan would be pissed off if he found out about this.
Besides, she should avoid giving others the chance to gossip about Ye Linhan.
Worrying about this, Shen Qi got up after gulping everything down.
Right then, a maid entered.
“Miss Shen, are you done with your meal?”
Shen Qi blushed slightly. “Yes, thank you for the meal. However, I have matters that I have to attend to, so I’ll have to leave now.”
“Please take your time, Miss Shen. The driver is on his way to pick you up.”
Shen Qi paused at that. “The driver?”
“Yeah, Young Master Han’s private driver! He will come back to get you after sending Young Master Han to the company.”
Shen Qi tensed up. “That’s fine; it’s too much of a hassle anyway. I will go back on my own. Is there any bus stop nearby?”
The maid looked awkward. “Miss Shen, are you sure you don’t need a driver?”
Shen Qi shook her head. “It’s fine. I can go back to the company by bus. Please tell me where I can find a bus stop nearby.”
The maid gave in because of Shen Qi’s stubbornness and sent her to the bus stop herself. “Here it is, Miss Shen.”
“Thank you!” Shen Qi smiled at her gratefully.
The maid shook her head in awe. “Don’t be, Miss Shen. This is the first time Young Master Han has ever brought a girl over…. You should make use of your opportunity well, Miss Shen. I’ll be leaving now.”
The maid left before Shen Qi could even react.
She was stunned as she slowly pondered about what the maid meant.

Back at the company.
No one expected Ye Moxuan to hold an emergency meeting and for him to openly criticize Vice President Ye in front of everyone. All the investors were dumbfounded because none of them knew what had happened.
Initially, Ye Linhan was confused too. However, after noticing that Ye Moxuan’s taunts and sharp glare were just as if he had stolen his favorite toy, he finally remembered the woman who was still eating at his private villa. As such, he smirked.
Ye Linhan then went over to Ye Moxuan right after the meeting ended.
“Moxuan, who pissed you off today?”
Ye Moxuan chuckled coldly. “You of course, for not noticing the huge mistake that you’ve missed in the contract.”
After all, Ye Moxuan would never do anything without a good reason. He was indeed right; there was a huge loophole in the contract.
“I’m sorry, that was my mistake. However, it seems like you are angry about some other issues.”
Ye Moxuan gave him a sharp look. “Are you saying that I can’t be pissed off because you’ve done something wrong?”
“That’s not it. I’m just trying to figure out the source of your anger.” Ye Linhan smiled slightly before inching closer. “I bumped into Shen Qi at the hospital this morning.”
Immediately, veins started popping on Ye Moxuan’s forehead.
How dare Ye Linhan mention that in front of him?! What was he planning to do?
“She fainted, so I brought her back with me.”
Right after that, Ye Linhan could feel coldness spreading from Ye Moxuan’s body, thereafter the latter paused slightly as an unknown gleam flashed across his eyes.
Xiao Su, who was by their side, hurried over when he saw that Ye Moxuan was about to act up again. “How could you do that, Vice President Ye? What are you planning to do by bringing the Second Young Lady to your place instead of sending her to the hospital?”
He tried to sound as polite as he could.
Ye Linhan smiled lightly. “She ran out of the hospital, so I figured that there was someone or something that she wanted to avoid, or that she didn’t like staying in the hospital. If I insisted on sending her back, wouldn’t that be worse for her? Xiao Su, sometimes, we have to think twice before we do anything.”
“Wow, Linhan, since you always ‘think twice’, have you ever considered the fact that she’s my woman?”
“What you’re saying is that you want me just to leave my fainted sister-in-law alone?”
“What are you talking about?” Xiao Su was starting to get annoyed. “You should get admitted to the hospital if you’re sick. Do you have a choice not to go just because you don’t like the hospital? Moreover, what were you thinking, not contacting Young Master Ye when you found her after she fainted?”
“You guys are too sensitive today. Moxuan, I didn’t contact you because I feel like it would be a hassle for you. You won’t blame me, won’t you?”
Ye Moxuan laughed coldly. “What do you think?”
“I also came over to tell you to pick her up after you’re done with work.”
“She can stay wherever she wants. That kind of woman isn’t worth my time sending her back home!” Ye Moxuan started mocking again.
Ye Linhan frowned. It seemed like his little brother was really emotionally constipated.
“The reason why I didn’t want you to get close to her is that she’s a gold digger. Moreover, she’s still the Second Young Lady of the Ye Family. I don’t want our family to be a laughing stock to others’. I’ve never said that I cared for her or that I wanted to pick her up.”
“Moxuan—”
“If you like her, you can tell the Old Master and take her away for all I care.”
That was what Shen Qi heard when she entered the meeting room after she rushed over to the company and figured out where they were at.
Standing at the entrance, she saw Ye Moxuan who was still inside.
His face was emotionless, and his gaze was cold as usual. Those words that he said lodged deeply within her heart like a sharp thorn.
