Everyone in the meeting was stunned to silence by Ye Moxuan’s sudden question. Xiao Su, who was observing from the sidelines, was stumped as well. Then, he shot Ye Moxuan a panicked look before reminding him in a whisper, “Young Master Ye…”
One of the old men lifted his glasses and looked up at Ye Moxuan. “Young Master Ye, what did you say just now? Can you please repeat it? I didn’t catch that.”
Ye Moxuan was preoccupied with the question of what type of present to get his son, and so he answered without a second thought, “What do kids normally like?”
The majority of the people in the meeting were middle-aged men. The ones who were older even had several grandchildren, but they hadn’t reached the age for retirement.
They are mostly either fathers or grandfathers. They must know what children like since they have so many kids at home.
One of the middle-aged men exchanged glances with the person beside him, and they both saw the disbelief in each other’s eyes.
Did Young Master Ye just ask what do kids like in the middle of a meeting?
Why would he ask something that is irrelevant to work? They were all experienced people who had faced all sorts of challenges in the business world, after all.
After they exchanged glances for a while, some of them immediately responded.
One of them asked, “Young Master Ye, are you looking for a gift for a child?”
“Mm-hmm.” Ye Moxuan nodded, and his lips were pressed into a thin line. He had a deep scowl across his face too.
“Young Master Ye, I am familiar with this issue. Children usually like cute things. You can’t go wrong if you buy adorable things for them.”
“Cute?” Ye Moxuan was confused, and he squinted at him. “For instance?”
“For example, some plush toys or dolls. Besides, you can even buy some building blocks too. There is a huge variety of models nowadays. My wife often buys them for my daughter.”
Ye Moxuan kept quiet upon his answer. Daughter.
I suddenly feel as though it might be nice to have a daughter too. However… Muzi’s child is a boy.
“Hang on, we haven’t even asked in detail. Why are you making suggestions blindly?”
Everyone wanted to contribute something since Ye Moxuan seemed to be showing interest in this matter. Suddenly, everyone in the conference room seemed to be fawning over him.
“Young Master Ye, if I may, are you buying a gift for a boy or girl? There’s a huge difference between what girls and boys like. It wouldn’t be nice if you give them the wrong gift.”
“Mm-hmm,” Ye Moxuan agreed with a nod. “It’s a boy.”
“You might want to consider model toys as gifts if it’s a boy.”
Model toys?
I’m not unfamiliar with that term. However… do children play with that sort of thing?
“I’m referring to model toys which have children-friendly designs. Boys are slightly naughtier and cheekier than girls are after all, and they like different things than girls. You could get him game consoles, sports cars, or something of the sort.”
“Young Master Ye, Young Master Ye! In our family, we would always buy…”
The group of people started chipping in and provided him with tons of examples. Ye Moxuan scowled at all the suggestions, and his lips were pressed into a thin line.
After a while, he called out suddenly, “Xiao Su.”
“Yes?” Xiao Su answered automatically to his name despite feeling slightly astonished.
Nevertheless, he got up from his seat and approached Ye Moxuan swiftly.
“Young Master Ye, what can I do for you?”
Ye Moxuan glanced at him and instructed, “Jot down everything they mentioned.”
Xiao Su was at a loss for words when he heard that.
“Assistant Xiao, I mentioned this just now…”
The group of people started chattering again while scrambling to be the first to present Xiao Su with their suggestions. They were all in a conference room for the higher-ups, but they were now acting like women buying food supplies from a market.
Furthermore, Xiao Su was quite convinced that he had never heard of these things. In the end, he tried his best to jot down each toy’s name.
Once he was done doing that, Xiao Su handed the page of notes to Ye Moxuan.
“Young Master Ye, I wrote them all down.”
Ye Moxuan nodded in satisfaction while regarding the page of notes.
“Mm-hmm, make a list and buy everything from the list.”
Xiao Su spoke, “Are you sure you want to buy them? Young Master Ye, you are—“
“Is there a problem if I want to buy a gift for my son?” he asked coldly while cocking a brow at Xiao Su.
Xiao Su’s lips quivered, as if he heard something huge.
“Is there a problem?” Ye Moxuan’s eyes gleamed with displeasure.
Xiao Su shook his head. “No problem at all. I will get it ready immediately. I should purchase everything here, I believe? Don’t worry. I’ll take care of it!”
Xiao Su thought it was ridiculous to purchase everything because there were many similar things on the list; the only difference was their names. However, he couldn’t go against Ye Moxuan’s direct command.
After the meeting was adjourned, the group of people started a discussion in hushed tones at the elevator.
“What is up with Young Master Ye for the past two days?”
“That’s right! I’ve been wondering the same thing. He hasn’t been in the company recently, and when he got back, he left once he received a phone call. Why did he even ask what kids like? Do you think that he might be buying a gift for his own son, since he claims that he’s buying a present for a child?”
Someone hesitated before answering, “That’s impossible. When did you hear that Young Master Ye has a son?”
“Uh, maybe he’s buying a gift for his relative’s child?”
“I’ve never heard of anyone being close to Young Master Ye though…”
“Could he actually have a son?”
They exchanged meaningful glances with each other. Hence, when they saw Xiao Su walking past them, they chased after him. “Assistant Xiao, what is up with Young Master Ye for the past few days? Forget about him being absent from the company frequently; he can’t even stay in a meeting that is in progress.”
“That’s right. Ye Group is a huge company; Young Master Ye can’t be planning to abandon it, can he?”
Xiao Su stopped dead in his tracks when he heard that, and he turned to face them with a helpless expression.
“You said it yourself that Ye Group is a huge company, so how could Young Master Ye abandon it? Besides, there haven’t been any problems in Ye Group’s operations, have there?”
Everyone nodded instinctively when they heard that.
“There haven’t been any problems, indeed.”
“Assistant Xiao, we are not questioning Young Master Ye’s capabilities. We are just gossiping. Does Young Master Ye have a son?”
Xiao Su was rendered speechless by the sudden question. He pursed his lips while scanning the crowd with a calm expression. “Why don’t you ask him if you are so curious about it?”
That person scratched his head embarrassedly. How would I have the courage to ask Young Master Ye? I’d most probably only ask him that question if I had a death wish.
“Since you do not have the courage to ask him, please don’t ask me too. I’m scared of the same things you guys are afraid of!” With that, Xiao Su stormed off into the elevator.
The doors of the elevator closed before the group of people could snap back to their senses. Hence, Xiao Su was all alone in the elevator, and he mumbled to himself while staring at the elevator wall, “Why would you ask me? I don’t know much anyway. Besides, I wouldn’t tell you even if I knew anything. Who would have guessed… that the group of old men love to gossip as well?”
Xiao Su bought everything from the list according to Ye Moxuan’s instructions. However, after buying them all, he realized in horror that everything wouldn’t fit into his car.
Thus, he had no choice but to engage a courier service to send everything directly to Ye Moxuan’s house.
Ye Moxuan had a blank expression when he saw the huge pile of things.
“Is this all?”
Xiao Su nodded before gulping reflexively. “They are all here. What would you like to do with them, Young Master Ye?”
