Meng Kefei’s words made Tang Yuanyuan silent for a moment.
“It was just something that I thought about. Don’t take it too seriously. ”
Meng Kefei hurriedly tried to take her words back and chuckled. “Anyway, it’s right to follow your heart. No matter who it is for, or what your decision is, it’s fine as long as you don’t hurt yourself.”
“Fei, you’re still the best.”
Tang Yuanyuan clung onto Meng Kefei’s arm. “Let’s work hard to achieve our goals together. You’ll study hard, while I’ll work hard to lose weight.”
When Zhang Xiaolu and Yuan Yuehan arrived, they, too, were a little surprised to see that Tang Yuanyuan had lost weight.
Tang Yuanyuan did not keep the reason to herself, and said shyly, “I felt that I was too fat, so I wanted to lose weight.”
Zhang Xiaolu and Yuan Yuehan looked at each other in unison, and they both had the same expression on their faces.
Tang Yuanyuan had finally realized that she was overweight. They used to think she might go on like this, but they never expected her to lose weight one day.
Even so, they still smiled and consoled Tang Yuanyuan.
“You’re not fat, in fact you were just the right size. Losing weight might not be good for your body, so you’d better not try to lose weight.”
“I agree. Besides, you used to look so cute when you were chubby. If you lose weight, you will no longer be adorable.”
The both of them were trying hard to suck up to Tang Yuanyuan.
As a matter of fact, no one had ever told Tang Yuanyuan these.
“Really?” Tang Yuanyuan asked in embarrassment.
“Of course! Look at the girls in our school, which of them is cuter than you?”
“We really think that you look cute, so if losing weight is too hard on you, just don’t do it. ”
No, it doesn’t work that way. Tang Yuanyuan shook her head. She knew it was useless to be cute, and she knew she had to lose weight. After all, there were some who thought that she was too fat and looked ugly.
She didn’t know whether Yishu thought of it that way, but she definitely wanted to improve.
“Anyway, I will work hard to lose weight.”
Since then, Tang Yuanyuan would always be the first to get up in their dormitory. Everytime Meng Kefei wanted to go to the library, she would still have to wait until the library was open before she could leave. So by the time she woke up, Tang Yuanyuan, who slept in the lower bunk, had already disappeared.
By the time they finished washing up, Tang Yuanyuan would return to the dormitory, sweating profusely. She would be so dehydrated that she had to gulp down several glasses of water before she headed for a shower.
Zhang Xiaolu and Yuan Yuehan snorted.
“Don’t tell me she really thinks that she can lose weight?”
“Impossible. She would only be able to hold on for a few days at most. She’s so used to eating so much; how could she just stop whenever she wants to? Just wait and see.”
After speaking, the two met Meng Kefei’s eyes. However, they knew that Meng Kefei would never say a word to Tang Yuanyuan, so they were not afraid of her at all. They looked at her with contempt and left the dormitory.
Meng Kefei packed her stuff and went to knock on the bathroom door.
“Yuanyuan, I’m leaving now. Don’t be late.”
“Okay.”
In the following days, Tang Yuanyuan got up early everyday and went to the sports field to jog. She started running even before the sun was up, and only stopped when the sun was bright in the sky.
At first, she thought that she would be the only one waking up this early to run, but she ended up seeing other people running.
There were some girls who were as chubby as she was, and some who were just there to train.
A week had passed, and those who came and said that they wanted to lose weight had disappeared. Tang Yuanyuan was the only one left in the sports field.
She suddenly felt like a lone ranger on this lonesome journey.
It turned out that on the road to success, not everyone would be there to accompany you. If one wanted to be persistent to achieve their goals, one couldn’t rely on anyone but themselves.
Not only did Tang Yuanyuan not feel discouraged, but she became even more determined.
She didn’t meet with Yishu during this period of time. Whenever Zhong Chufeng came to see her, she would also refuse to see him. She devoted herself completely to losing weight.
After persevering for half a month, Tang Yuanyuan’s weight dropped yet again.
Zhang Xiaolu and Yuan Yuehan initially thought she could only stick to her plan for a few days and would soon give up. They didn’t expect her to stick to it for half a month. Watching her lose weight before their own eyes, and her plump face slowly becoming slimmer, they both felt jealous.
They went to confront Meng Kefei.
“Kefei, you’re close to Yuanyuan. Do you know her reasons for being so determined to lose weight?”
Meng Kefei frowned. She wanted to ignore them. Zhang Xiaolu and Yuan Yuehan once asked someone to beat her up, and if it wasn’t for Tang Yuanyuan who sent her to the hospital, the injury might still have after-effects.
“Yes, Kefei. Didn’t Yuanyuan used to care about nothing but food?”
“I have no idea,” Meng Kefei replied nonchalantly. “If you really want to know, it would be better to ask her yourself.”
“You!” Yuan Yuehan didn’t expect her to answer so harshly, and that made her burn in anger.
Zhang Xiaolu sneered. “It seems that you have forgotten your lesson. Is that why you have the guts to speak to us in such a tone?”
Hearing that, Meng Kefei raised her head, but was immediately grabbed by the neck. Zhang Xiaolu stood up and held her head against the table. Meng Kefei did not see that coming, and she felt a sting on her cheek, as if it had been pierced by the tip of the pen.
For a moment, her mind was clouded by pain.
“Let me go!”
“Let you go?” Zhang Xiaolu snorted contemptuously. “What happened to your arrogance? Why did you stop? You should continue!”
Meng Kefei started to struggle, but Zhang Xiaolu immediately ordered, “Yuan Yuehan, help me pin her down.”
Yuan Yuehan instantly stepped forward and pinned Meng Kefei’s arms behind her back. “Don’t move, or I’ll break your arm.”
Meng Kefei was in pain and she was anxious. “What do you want from me? Was I wrong? If you really want to know the answer, you can go ahead and ask her. What does it have to do with me?”
“What does it have to do with you? Aren’t you both close friends? Didn’t you say so when you went to her house? Yet you went all crazy just because we asked you a few questions.”
Meng Kefei was so anxious that her tears fell. Her face was hurting. They had hurt her body the last time, but this time, they went for her face. She wondered whether her face would scar.
“Are you going to tell us or not? If not, we can’t guarantee what will happen next.”
“I’ll tell you! Let me go first, and I will tell you everything!”
Zhang Xiaolu and Yuan Yuehan exchanged looks, but did not let her go. Zhang Xiaolu patted Meng Kefei’s cheek firmly. “What a miserable wretch! Seems like you wouldn’t know what’s fear if we don’t teach you a lesson, huh? We will only let you go after you tell us the reason. Go on now.”

“That’s the reason.”
“Are you trying to fool us? She’s working so hard just because she wants to look pretty? Are you fooling yourself or do you think we were born yesterday?”
Tears were running down Meng Kefei’s face, and her lower lip was bleeding. “It’s the truth. That’s what she told me.”
