Ye Linhan grabbed her hand. He appeared weak and frail, but he was adamant when he said, “No, I’m not going to the hospital.”
“Why wouldn’t you go to the hospital when you’re in such bad shape?” Han Muzi had no idea what was wrong with him, but she could clearly tell that he was in excruciating pain just from the cold sweat beaded across his forehead and his pale face.
However, Ye Linhan stared at her unwaveringly while smiling weakly. “You will not be worried about me just like how you are right now once I get into the ambulance. That is why… I’d rather die of pain right here than to go to the hospital.”
Han Muzi exclaimed in exasperation, “Are you insane? You are already in so much pain!”
“I’m not insane.” Ye Linhan held onto her hands tightly. His eyes reflected even more suffering than that on his face. “I just want a chance for myself. Why… Why can’t you just spare me a look? If you say I am insane, so be it.”
Seeing him like this, Han Muzi felt guilty. After all, she was the reason he was beaten up by Ye Moxuan. I do think that Ye Moxuan was too reckless, but…
In conclusion, I am feeling extremely flustered now.
She wanted to pull her hands away, but Ye Linhan was holding onto her tightly. She couldn’t bring herself to push him away since he looked so weak; besides, it made her feel like a bad person. Hence, she had no choice but to console him, “You should stop speaking now. The ambulance is arriving soon.”
Han Muzi scanned her surroundings and checked their location on her phone before stating, “I remember the nearest hospital isn’t too far away from here. They should arrive in another eight minutes.”
She asked Ye Linhan while looking at him, “Where do you feel uncomfortable? Describe to me now so that I’d be able to inform the doctor later.”
However, Ye Linhan merely stared at her in silence. Although he appeared ghostly pale due to the pain, he seemed to be oblivious to his condition.
Why is this happening? Han Muzi felt very troubled. “Ye Linhan, you need to go to the hospital when you are not feeling well. Do you think you would recover miraculously without going to the hospital? I can’t help you up if you faint later.”
Ye Linhan’s gaze became slightly unfocused after staring at her for a while, then he broke into a grin suddenly. “Will you come with me if I were to go to the hospital later?”
Han Muzi hesitated before answering him, “I need to pick Little Bean up. You—“
He shut his eyes in resignation while laughing bitterly.
“True enough, no one would even know if someone like me were to die in a hospital.”
Seeing how he was acting, Han Muzi gritted her teeth and reassured him, “Little Bean should be heading out after the arrival of the ambulance. I’ll head to the hospital to visit you after sending him back home. Or… I will phone your company staff to keep them—“
“Alright, then. I will wait for you in the hospital.”
Han Muzi couldn’t bring herself to say anything else since he had cut her off, and so she waited beside him nervously for the ambulance. The ambulance had yet to arrive when Little Bean walked out of the school, and when he saw his mommy, Little Bean dashed toward Han Muzi straight away.
“Mommy!”
“Little Bean.” Han Muzi waved at him. Little Bean made his way to her and nuzzled against her. Then, he looked at Ye Linhan, who looked very pale as he sat on the ground while leaning against the wall.
“Eh? What happened to Mr. Ye?”
“Mr. Ye isn’t feeling well. I’m waiting for the ambulance. Can you wait a little while for me?”
Little Bean nodded obediently. “Of course. I will keep you company while we wait, mommy.”
“Alright. Thank you, Little Bean.”
Han Muzi was glad that Little Bean was such an understanding child.
Ye Linhan was leaning against the wall with an exhausted expression. When he heard Little Bean’s voice, he opened his eyes gradually. Then, he forced a smile when he met Little Bean’s clear, black eyes.
“I see you’re here, Little Bean…”
“Mr. Ye, good day to you,” Little Bean greeted him with a bow.
“I’m so sorry. I’m afraid… I can’t take you for a good meal today.”
“No worries, Mr. Ye.” Little Bean blinked several times innocently. After that, he reassured Ye Linhan, “Mr. Ye, you aren’t feeling well. You should close your eyes and rest. Mommy and I will keep you company until the ambulance arrives.”
Ye Linhan stared at Little Bean, who closely resembled Ye Moxuan. I know that Ye Moxuan has strong feelings for Han Muzi, and he is dead-set on having her.
I would not stand a chance at all if Ye Moxuan sees Little Bean, who is his spitting image!
Ye Linhan shut his eyes again once he thought of that. After a while, he asked Little Bean with much difficulty, “I’m in a lot of pain now. Can you and your mommy… accompany me to the hospital?”
“But…”
“I don’t have any family, and it’s too lonely in the hospital.”
He laughed bitterly, and since his eyes were closed, they couldn’t see the emotions he was hiding.
It is truly unbearable to lie to such a naïve and innocent child.
However, what choice do I have? Han Muzi is unmoved, and so I have no choice but to target this child.
He is a child after all, and I’ve given him what he wanted in the past. Besides, he greets me each time he sees me; I suppose he would be more soft-hearted compared to his mommy.
However, Ye Linhan had underestimated Little Bean.
Although Little Bean was a five-year-old child, he wasn’t the average boy. His wisdom, abilities and intelligence were different from those of his peers.
Little Bean blinked and glanced at his mommy before rejecting Ye Linhan in a serious tone. “Mr. Ye, do you not have any family? I recall you have your own company. Mommy, why don’t you phone someone from Mr. Ye’s company? Mr. Ye said that it’s too lonely in the hospital.”
Hmph! Is he trying to get mommy and me to accompany him? No way.
I might not dislike Ye Linhan, but I wouldn’t allow it if he’s trying to break daddy and mommy apart.
Ye Linhan opened his eyes to look at the child in front of him. Little Bean was staring unblinkingly at Ye Linhan, and the little boy’s eyes were clear and untainted.
However, the boy’s gaze sent chills down Ye Linhan’s spine for some reason.
Somehow, I feel as if this child is able to see through my mind.
Was it just an illusion?
Ye Linhan was still in shock, but at that moment, he heard the ambulance’s siren approaching them and getting closer.
“The ambulance is here.”
Very soon, the ambulance stopped at the roadside, and the paramedics carried Ye Linhan into the vehicle. Ye Linhan stared at Han Muzi unblinkingly until right before he entered the ambulance, and his lips parted.
“Don’t… forget what you promised me, Muzi.”
“Aren’t your family members coming along?” The nurse shot Han Muzi and Little Bean a strange look before shutting the doors.
Han Muzi snapped back to her senses, and just when she was about to answer the nurse, Little Bean, who was standing beside her, answered on her behalf, “Miss Nurse, we aren’t this Mister’s family members. My mommy noticed that he wasn’t feeling well, and that was why she called an ambulance for him.”
“Huh?” The nurse looked embarrassed. “I see. In that case, thank you so much.”
“No worries. I’m leaving with my mommy now.”
Han Muzi was about to say something, but Little Bean held her hand and walked to the side. The nurse looked at the little boy’s back and lamented, “Are kids nowadays all so good looking?”
