Vincent’s murder weighed heavily on Ruby’s mind. She knew that she wasn’t stronger than Vincent, so if the assassin could kill Vincent, then it would be just as easy for the assassin to kill her.
“We’ve already discussed our plans for luring the assassin out. Coupled with Dustin’s impressive performance during the test, I believe we’ll soon get their attention.
“Who knows, the assassin might act tonight!” Dalen said in a whisper.
“The sun has set. We should start making preparations.” Crystal looked up at the sky.
Only twilight lingered on the western horizon, and in half an hour, the land would be shrouded in darkness.
“Dustin, good luck.” Dalen’s expression was serious as he continued, “But don’t worry, I’ve contacted Quincy from the Celestial Alliance. He’ll fully support our plan.
“Once the assassin shows themselves, we’ll attack together. We won’t let you bear the risk alone.”
“Don’t worry. Since I’ve agreed to be the bait, I’ve made preparations accordingly. You just need to worry about the arrangements. There’s no need to worry about my safety,” Dustin replied with a faint smile.
“Alright. Then, we’ll proceed with our plan!” Dalen nodded and left first with the others in tow.
After the cauldron-lifting incident, Dustin’s heroic deeds would spread quickly.
Based on the assassin’s modus operandi, a young and talented martial artist like Dustin would become their primary target. They wouldn’t spare him easily.
As long as the assassin targeted Dustin, they would have a chance to capture them. And to lure out the assassin sooner, they needed to create a perfect situation for the assassin to carry out the assassination.
Although it was risky, it was worth a try.
Night soon fell.
Inside the tavern, Dustin sat by the window, drinking alone. His face was flushed, and he appeared slightly intoxicated.
As the night grew deeper, the streets outside grew desolate, with few pedestrians wandering about. The chilly wind rustled the tree branches as leaves fluttered to the ground.
“Dustin, any sightings?” came Dalen’s voice through Dustin’s earpiece.
In order to avoid alerting the enemy, Dalen and his group had hidden themselves well, communicating only through earpieces.
“I haven’t noticed anyone suspicious for now,” Dustin whispered.
“How is that possible? It’s well past midnight. Why hasn’t the assassin shown up? Could they have caught wind of our plan?” Ruby’s voice could be heard from the earpiece.
“That’s impossible! Only a few of us are aware of the plan. It couldn’t have been leaked!” Dalen denied it immediately.
Aside from a few key members, nobody knew what they were up to.
“Could it be that the assassin doesn’t consider Dustin their target?” Crystal spoke up.
“That’s hard to say. The enemy isn’t aware of our plan. Right now, all we can do is wait patiently and hope the assassin takes the bait,” Dalen sounded resigned.
Even though their plan was to lure the assassin out, there was no guarantee they could apprehend them.
They still needed luck on their side and could only hope the assassin would present them with a good opportunity.
“Wait! I’ve spotted a suspicious target approaching the tavern!” Miles exclaimed suddenly, getting everyone’s attention.
