The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning by Max Charming Chapter 1281

Dalton slowly stopped crying. But after crying for so long, his face had become red from it, and there were still tears and mucus on his face.

Margaret was too nervous to speak because she finally heard Madelyn’s voice after not being in contact with her for a very long time. She felt uneasy.

Madelyn sat on the bed with a blanket covering her legs. “Dal, it’s mommy. Do you still remember my voice?”

Dalton said unclearly in baby talk, ” Ma… Mama…”

Kai said to Margaret, “You can leave now. I’ll call for you later.”

Margaret responded, “Okay, I’ll be outside. Let me know if you need anything.”

After Margaret left, Kai wanted to take the phone. But Dalton held it tightly, unwilling to let it go.

Madelyn could feel that Dalton truly regarded her as his mother as she listened to his incomprehensible baby talk on the phone. He said many things, but she did not understand them.

Madelyn’s gentle voice was soothing as she said, “Dal, mommy is around you. You need to listen to Margaret, okay?”

Dalton responded, “Ah…”

Madelyn continued, “You need to eat well and sleep well.”

Dalton replied, “Ah…”

Kai thought, ‘This naughty kid doesn’t look like he’d just been crying his heart out. He looks so proud now.’

Halfway through the conversation between Madelyn and Dalton, the phone suddenly went silent. He held the phone with both hands and shook it. “Ma… Mama…”

Kai took the phone and pressed the power button. “Dalton, the phone is out of battery. I’ll charge it now. Don’t worry, your Dad will bring your Mom back. With you around, they won’t be separated.”

Dalton happily grinned with his newly grown baby teeth. He then turned over and fell asleep. Kai quickly supported Dalton’s head. He would be held responsible if Dalton knocked his head on something.

After settling Dalton, Kai got up and left the room. He realized it was getting late and decided to stay in the villa for the night.

At midnight, in the underground passage beneath the villa, two people stealthily leaked gas into the villa from underneath the house.

One of them said, “Is this enough?”

The other person replied, “No. Let’s add a little more gas. We need to make sure they all die without anyone noticing.”

“I never thought we’d be so lucky to find an underground passage here.”

“If we pull this off tonight, we’ll immediately become rich.”

Dalton climbed down the stairs. It seemed like he had smelled something unpleasant. He then looked in a direction and immediately got attracted by a toy crystal ball on the kitchen sink.

He struggled to climb onto the sink; he sat on it with part of his body outside the sink, accidentally turning on the faucet.

The water was warm, similar to the temperature Dalton usually bathed in.

When the water in the sink was completely filled, it overflowed into the kitchen and everywhere else.

Madelyn Jent died on her wedding anniversary. She had been married to Zach Jardin for eight years, compromising for the better part of her life. However, she ended up being kicked out of the house. After the painful divorce, Madelyn was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Despite her deteriorating health, she clung to life in the hospital, hoping that Zach would visit her one last time. As Valentine's Day arrived, heavy snow fell outside. Yet, Zach failed to make an appearance, leaving Madelyn with a deep sense of regret. "Zach Jardin... If I could start over, I would never fall in love with you again!"

Miraculously, Madelyn found herself reborn to the time when she was eighteen. Fueled by the desire to avoid repeating the same mistakes, she made a solemn vow to distance herself from everything related to Zach. But fate seemed determined to test her resolve. Just as she sought to escape the shadows of her past, the same man, Zach, emerged with an intimidating aura, gradually approaching her step by step. His voice, reminiscent of a devil's melody, echoed through the hallway as he declared, "Madelyn, I'll take care of you for the rest of your life..."

Chapter 1 On February 14th, Valentine's Day, Madelyn Jent, a 31-year-old woman, lost her battle to cancer. Inside a room in SereneCare Hospital in Ventropolis, the air was filled with a strong scent of disinfectant. [Zach, the doctor inserted a painful dialysis needle in me today.] [I'm on the verge of death. Could you spare a moment to visit me?] [Please, Zach...] Madelyn weakly turned her head and glanced at the text messages on her phone. Despite sending multiple messages, she had received no response from Zach. IV drips were connected to her veins. Her face was pale, her eyes sunken, and her body emaciated. Cancer had ravaged her limbs, causing them to deteriorate. She was completely immobile, unable to perform even the simplest tasks unaided. The nurse assigned to care for her hadn't shown up for almost two weeks, citing that further treatment was unnecessary. Madelyn was sensitive to the pain, but in the advanced stage of her cancer, she had to suffer with it every day. The only thing that kept her going was her love for Zach. But now, her once overwhelming love for him had faded. She was left with nothing but a frail and ailing body. Madelyn switched off her phone and silently awaited the embrace of death. The pain had nearly blurred her consciousness. She reminisced about the eight years she had devoted to being Zach's faithful wife. But what had she gained in the end? One by one, those around her had abandoned her, leaving her alone and destitute. Madelyn couldn't help but think that Zach would perhaps feel the greatest relief upon her demise. With her gone, he no longer subjected to the sight of her face. He could finally satisfy his longing to bring Cecilia Samford home as his wife. Eight months ago, on Zach's birthday, Madelyn sat on the couch, anxiously waiting for his return. It was well past two o'clock in the morning, and the carefully prepared meal on the table had grown cold. Instead of Zach, it was his assistant who arrived, bearing a divorce agreement. The assistant delivered the news hesitantly, saying, "Madam, Mr. Jardin had no choice. The Jardin Corporation is a vast enterprise that requires an heir." Madelyn forced a pale smile. A few years ago, she had been pregnant, but an accident had tragically led to a stillborn child. Since then, she hadn't been able to conceive.
