“Sir… Sir, I don’t know what you’re saying. Let go of me. I can’t breathe.”
The middle-aged woman was lifted off the ground, and her face was beet red. She kept struggling to break free, but it was to no avail.
She was like a weak chick in Dustin’s hands-he could kill her at any second.
“Dustin, what are you doing?” Jackson furrowed his brow in confusion. It was not appropriate for a civilized person like Dustin to make a move on innocent civilians.
“Are you crazy, Dustin? She was kind enough to send us candles. Yet, you’re trying to hurt her. How cruel.” After seeing that, Garrett scolded Dustin indignantly.
On the other hand, Aidan was sipping on wine relaxedly. It was as if he was an outsider in this situation. Grace wore a confused expression. However, she didn’t say anything. She knew Dustin had his reasons.
“This person is suspicious. She wants to harm us!” Dustin glared at the middle-aged woman, not wanting to let go.
“Sir, I… I didn’t do anything. It must be a misunderstanding.” The middle- aged woman seemed horrified. Her voice was hoarse, and she looked weak.
“Dustin, do you have any evidence for that?” Jackson asked.
“That’s right! She’s just a villager. How could she have any evil intentions? Aren’t you just making things up?” Garrett scolded.
Garrett didn’t like Dustin the moment he met him. Thus, he wanted to use this opportunity to bring Dustin down.
“The candle she lit is poisonous. You’ll feel dizzy after inhaling it for more than three minutes, and you’ll die after five. Do you still think that she’s innocent?” Dustin asked, turning to look at Garrett.¹
Upon hearing that, the middle-aged woman narrowed her eyes, and shock appeared on her face. 2
However, Garrett didn’t believe Dustin and continued to rebuke, “Nonsense! It’s just two candles. What poison can it contain? I think you’re just being overly suspicious!”
“If you think there’s no problem with it, you can get closer and inhale it. Let’s see if you’ll be alive or dead in five minutes,” Dustin replied indifferently.
“You-“Garrett gritted his teeth.
Although he wanted to retort, he didn’t want to risk his life. Dustin was confident in his stance. Thus, one would find it difficult to doubt him.
“This candle is indeed weird.” Jackson marched up to the candle and sniffed it.
“Even if the candle is poisonous, it doesn’t mean that she’s the one behind it. Perhaps someone had used her,” Garrett could only rebuke.
“If she’s not the one behind it, is it you? “Dustin sneered.
“Hey! Don’t falsely accuse me!”
Garrett’s expression changed.
Although he wasn’t the one behind it, he did think of poisoning Dustin. Thus, he felt a bit guilty.
“You better shut up, if you have nothing to do with it. Don’t disturb me questioning her.” Dustin glared at Garrett. Then, he turned his attention back to the middle-aged woman. “Tell us who wanted to kill us. If you do, I can spare your life.”
“Sir, I don’t know anything. I’m not involved in it…” The middle-aged woman kept shaking her head innocently.
“Do you think I’m easy to fool?” Dustin suddenly gripped her wrist and turned her palm over.
“Look at your hand,” he said indifferently. “There are thick calluses on your finger and the part between your thumb and index finger.
“This is something a person wielding a knife long-term will have. If you’re just a waitress, why do you have these calluses?”
The woman’s expression immediately changed after hearing Dustin’s questions.
She didn’t expect Dustin to be so alert. Not only did he immediately notice the candle was poisonous, but he also saw through her act.
Dustin was only about 20 years old, after all. Yet, he seemed even more difficult to deal with than an experienced old man.
“Let me ask you one last time. Who ordered you to kill us?”
Dustin gradually tightened his grip, causing the woman to go green. She was beginning to suffocate, and the fear of dying spread through her body.
After struggling for a few seconds, the woman finally agreed, “I’ll talk… The person who asked me to poison you is…
Before she could finish talking, a burst of wind sounded outside the window. Then, a large number of projectiles shot through it.
It was like a violent storm targeting everyone inside.
“Be careful!” Dustin panicked. He immediately let go of the woman and shielded Grace.
A true energy force field appeared with a shudder of his body, blocking all the projectiles.
However, Dustin soon noticed that something was wrong. He turned to look and found that the woman was dead, killed by the projectiles.
It was obvious that the projectiles were not to target him, but to get rid of the woman. The other party was well- prepared.
“It seems like the blackout was not a coincidence. Thankfully, Dustin found out in time. Otherwise, we would be in danger,” Jackson said grimly.
“We just arrived here and didn’t offend anyone. Who’s cruel enough to kill us?” Garrett’s expression darkened. The projectiles just now were all poisonous. Garrett would have been dead if he didn’t dodge in time.
“There are two possibilities. Perhaps someone intended to kill us and snatch the goods. Or, someone is taking revenge,” Jackson said.
He glanced at Dustin and added, ”
Dustin, you’ve offended Yonah, so you have to be careful in the future. Perhaps tonight’s incident has something to do with him.”
“I’ll be more alert.” Dustin nodded.
Dustin couldn’t be bothered about Drakes Dominion Order’s Yonah or Frostwing Sect’s Bran. If they wanted to cause trouble, Dustin didn’t mind killing them.
“Captain Wilder, I prepared a bottle of Curax. You should let everyone consume one, just in case.” Grace took out a bottle of medicine and handed it to Garrett.
“No problem,” Garrett answered before leaving.
As Grace expected, everyone in the room with the lit candles was poisoned.
The culprit was adamant to get rid of all of them!
