“There’s no sign of her.”
Larry arrived at the top floor of Russell Group, panting heavily, to deliver his report. “The surveillance cameras have been destroyed,” he said. “Ms. Warren disappeared as soon as she left the airport. Our team is currently investigating every suspicious vehicle, but it’s going to take some time.”
While speaking, he barely dared to lift his head. The man before him exuded an overwhelmingly powerful aura, as if he could obliterate everything.
Impatience and irritation were etched on Dexter’s face. “What about the investigation into the person on the plane?”
“That man claimed to have accepted money from a stranger who instructed him to say all that. The account was untraceable, and investigations are still ongoing.”
“Whoever sabotaged the airport surveillance cameras must be very skilled. It seems this was all planned.”
“Who could it be?”
“Morgan.”
Upon hearing this name, Zachariah, who had been standing guard all night, blurted out, “Josie’s loyal follower?”
However, Morgan’s influence in Rivodia was substantial, and he indeed was someone capable enough of assisting Josie in her
escape. In less than ten minutes, Larry had found Morgan’s private contact information and
handed it over to Dexter. As he glanced down at
it, a commotion arose from outside the office.
“Sir, you can’t go in!” The secretarial staff couldn’t stop the intruder. Dexter looked up, only to see a tall man stride in, his captivating eyes brimming with rage.
He rushed straight up to Dexter, grabbed him by the collar, and swung a punch. “Damn you, where have you hidden Josie?”
Without a doubt, it was Morgan. Exuding an air of hostility, he was travel-worn, having rushed over through the night.
A punch landed on the side of Dexter’s face, causing blood to ooze out. Dexter raised his hand to wipe the corner of his mouth, and upon seeing the trace of blood, he nodded slightly. Immediately, he counterattacked, gripping Morgan’s arm and pinning him against the wall. He swiftly threw two punches, and soon, blood appeared on Morgan’s face as well.
“I could have sent her away! You should’ve minded your own business!” Dexter rarely struck anyone, but when he did, he was ruthless.
Everyone in the office was flustered. “Mr. Russell!”
Dexter didn’t give Morgan any time to react as he rained punches down on him. Blood smeared from Morgan’s mouth, but he refused to show weakness. Seizing an opportunity, he turned the tables, pinning Dexter beneath him and retaliating in kind.
“She never wanted to go to Nalanica with you! Her home is here, in our country. You don’t understand her at all, yet you dare to confine her. If even a single hair on her head is harmed, I won’t spare you!”
Immediately, Zachariah and Larry stepped forward, pulling Morgan away with all their might. “Enough! Is this really the time to be discussing this?”
Morgan was severely injured but his rage continued to burn. After he was pulled aside, he glared at Dexter. “Where is she?”
Dexter was leaning back on the couch. With his collar half-open and his hand stained with blood, he exuded a menacing air.
The fury in his eyes kept building up, as the fact that Morgan could ask such a question meant that Josie was not with him.
Morgan was a smart man. He circled the crowd, scoffing, “Don’t tell me she’s disappeared.”
An eerie silence quickly followed.
Morgan glared at Dexter, cursing out loud, “Fuck!”
The latter felt his heart sink into a bottomless abyss, as his only hope had vanished, signifying that Josie was now in grave danger.
Dexter lifted his gaze, his voice as cold as ice, “We’re in Wavery. How did she collude with you? You better tell me everything.”
It seemed that the two had been in constant contact, and Josie trusted Morgan deeply, enough to entrust her fate to him.
Morgan wiped his face, which was entirely covered in blood.
