The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning By Max Charming chapter 446
Madelyn thought, ‘I’ve always felt alone in this family. It doesn’t really matter if there’s nobody
else in this house.”
As she walked past Zach, headed toward the stairs, he reached out and gently held her hand.
“Rosario had a car accident. She had to undergo surgery, and now she’s in the hospital.”
Madelyn’s expression remained unchanged as she responded, “I hope she recovers quickly.
But I won’t be going to visit her.”
Despite her close relationship with Rosario, Madelyn couldn’t bring herself to face the person
who had fed her poison for over a decade. At one point, she had naively considered Rosario
her only family.
In reality, Madelyn had suspected this truth for a long time, but she had been unable to
confront it. A breakdown seemed inevitable for her. However, this was just one factor
contributing to Madelyn’s current emotional state.
She wanted to deceive herself. But she could not do that. She wanted to move on and not
care about anything. However, she did not know when she would be able to move on. She
thought she would probably just live aimlessly for the rest of her life.
Madelyn pulled her hand away from Zach’s and climbed the stairs. She then continued to lock
herself in her room.
Compared to before, her state had improved a lot. At least she did not just stay in her room all
the time. Now, she was just like a soulless being.
She entered the dark room. She seemed to see a woman sitting in the room again.
That woman’s face was still not visible in the darkness. When she turned her head, Madelyn
still could not see her face clearly. However, Madelyn could hear the woman’s gentle voice,
“Maddie, is there anything you’d like to tell Mom?”
Madelyn, “Father is gone. He won’t come back anymore. He left me all alone.”
“You still have me…”
“Yes.”
Madelyn was then woken up from her daze by a knock on the door, “Ms. Jent, your meal is
ready. Would you like to come out and eat?”
She took sleeping pills just now. She was foggy. So, she did not hear clearly what the person
said. She then started falling asleep again.
Her door lock was turned, and the door was opened the next second. The key used to unlock
the door was a new one.
The room was stuffy and had an unpleasant smell. It was as messy and dirty as ever. Zach
stretched his hand to press the switch on the wall. He then immediately noticed a half-full
glass of water and a bottle of sleeping pills on the bedside table.
At night, the effects of the sleeping pills wore off. Madelyn opened her eyes and saw her
windows had been opened. A choking smell of smoke wafted in from outside.
She coughed a few times as she propped herself up on the bed. There was a pile of cigarette
butts on the floor. She wondered how many cigarettes Zach had smoked.
When Zach walked in, Madelyn was grabbing the bottle of sleeping pills on the bedside table and took two from it. Zach asked, “Are you planning to have pills as your meal?”
Madelyn had drooping eyelids as she responded, “It’s so late now. Why haven’t you left?”
Zach approached her and slapped the pills out of her hand onto the floor, “Stop taking them
from now on. They’re bad for your health.”
“Thank you for your concern. I’m fine.” Madelyn said as she lay down. She turned her back to him and
closed her eyes to force herself to sleep.
However, Zach was still staying in the room and had no intention of leaving.
The room’s lights were on. She was wide awake and could not fall asleep.
Madelyn pushed the blanket aside. She hugged her pillow and got out of her bed. Zach was
sitting at the edge of her bed when he asked, “Where are you going?”
Madelyn replied, “It’s inappropriate for a guy and a girl to stay in the same room alone. I’ll go
sleep downstairs.”
