Han Muzi didn’t try to guess what he was thinking; she simply changed her shoes and went inside. As she walked toward the kitchen, she said, “Take a seat. I’ll pour you a glass of water, then bring in the clothes for you.”
Bring in? Ye Moxuan seemed to have caught on to some important information. He didn’t sit down; instead, he stood in the living room and looked around.
Very quickly, she came out carrying a glass of warm water. “Drink this first, I-I’ll go and bring in your clothes.” After speaking, she walked in the direction of the balcony. She couldn’t just throw away the clothes he had left behind in her bathroom last night, so she decided to help him wash them and hung them out to dry.
As she was retrieving the clothes at the balcony, her heart trembled; she didn’t know if he would follow her out here and tease her for being a pervert. Fortunately, this time around, he didn’t. She finished retrieving the clothes and went back inside. “These are the clothes you left behind yesterday. On another note, I took your suit to the dry cleaner’s again. It will probably be ready by tomorrow.”
He looked at the clothes she had retrieved—she had even packed them carefully into bags—and just responded, “Okay.”
Han Muzi felt that it was strange when he didn’t say anything else after replying with an ‘Okay’. Two people sitting in the living room quietly also felt very strange. She felt that it was odd to continue sitting there, but he just sat there seemingly without any intention to leave. She could only say, “I’m going to wash and cook the rice. After that, I need to go to the department store downstairs to buy some fresh ingredients.”
He nodded. “Okay.”
She was confused. At this point, isn’t he going to say something like ‘I’m leaving’? Didn’t he come here just to take his clothes? Isn’t he going to leave since he’d already received it? The implication behind her words was very obvious, but she didn’t expect him to do anything at all even after all that. Don’t tell me…
“Do you… want to stay for dinner?” she asked cautiously; her eyes looking at him were full of curiosity. Honestly speaking, the thought hadn’t even crossed her mind. Last night, he had commented that the fish soup she cooked was mediocre, so he shouldn’t be wanting to eat her home-cooked dishes again. But his odd behavior today made her blurt out the question.
After asking the question, she felt like she had gone crazy. Why did I have to go and ask a question that would only humiliate me? Just as she was wondering how she could salvage the situation, he suddenly replied, “Since you’ve invited me, I’ll have to reluctantly accept your request.”
Han Muzi was very confused. Huh? When did I invite him? I was just asking him! “Wait! That… when did I—”
Before she could even finish her sentence, Ye Moxuan stood up. “Weren’t you going to wash the rice? Why haven’t you gone?”
She was at a loss for words. Fine. Since it’s already come down to this, what else am I thinking about? As such, she went back into the kitchen to cook the rice. As she was washing the rice, she suddenly realized something. It’s not a bad idea if he stays. If he keeps coming every day in the future, and he agrees to stay for dinner every time I ask, isn’t that a good thing?
Soon, she went out to buy the ingredients. She didn’t ask him to go with her; instead, she told him to wait for her in the house as she would be back soon. Unexpectedly, when she walked out the door, he was right behind her. She didn’t say anything, and they went downstairs together. The department store was very close by—it was just a few minutes away—so they didn’t take the car.
Han Muzi loved eating fish. Also, fish was very nutritious for her right now. So, after buying the vegetables, she headed to the fish stall. As soon as they approached, a strong fishy odor wafted toward them. His steps came to an abrupt halt, and he frowned at her. “Are you getting fish again?”
“Eating fish is good for you, and I like to drink fish soup.” After saying that, she felt something wrong with the expression of the person standing next to her. She couldn’t resist adding jokingly, “Don’t worry. I’m going to cook the fish immediately today, so I’ll get the man to slaughter it for me now. I won’t be asking you to help me prepare the fish again.” She continued in a soft mutter, “I sure wouldn’t want you to get your clothes wet again.”
Ye Moxuan remained quiet. He scowled as he watched her back disappearing in the distance. Is she looking down on me? Just because I couldn’t catch the fish back then, much less kill it?
When she returned after buying the fish, the air around his body was even heavier than before. However, his handsome appearance attracted the attention and gazes of many. When they were at the cashier, a few women were glancing his way, and they even took out their phones to take pictures. Alas, he swept a cold glare in their direction; they had no choice but to put away their phones while gazing at him doe-eyed.
As Han Muzi watched this scene, she thought, Sure enough, no matter where they went—be it at home or abroad—good looking people will always be popular.
After that, they quickly returned to Han Muzi’s residence. They had just arrived at the entrance when they noticed that another person was standing there. George sat in front of the door, watching them with a surprised look. “You guys…”
He stared at the scene in front of him in amazement—Ye Moxuan was carrying a shopping bag from the department store that seemed rather heavy while Han Muzi was carrying a small bag that looked rather light. They looked just like a young, married couple living their everyday life together. Of course, he didn’t dare to say those words out loud. Instead, he quickly got up and said, “Hehe, I’m here for a free meal again.”
As soon as he finished speaking, he felt a death-glare fixated on him. His smile stiffened; he didn’t even need to think to know who was the one glaring at him. He cleared his throat lightly, pretending that nothing happened.
Han Muzi opened the door nonchalantly. “Come on in.”
George was about to step forward, but Ye Moxuan’s tall figure stood in the doorway, blocking his path. He watched as Han Muzi changed her shoes and headed straight into the kitchen with all the ingredients. He then withdrew his gaze, and coldly asked, “What are you trying to do?”
“I’m not trying to do anything. I just thought that your assistant is a very good cook. The dishes she makes are very tasty, so I came here to beg for a meal,” George quipped.
His words made Ye Moxuan furrow his brows. If I hadn’t followed her home today, would George have come over regardless? “Did I give you my permission to come here begging for free food?” He turned his head and stared at George with an unhappy expression.
Hearing that, George couldn’t help retorting, “That’s weird. What has your permission got to do with me? It’s not like I came here to eat the food you cooked.”
Ye Moxuan was rendered speechless.
“What? You’re just her superior at work. Don’t tell me you want to manage the private lives of all your company’s employees too?” George laughed as he teased him. He put his hands on his hips and wickedly continued, “Yuchi, you can’t be so controlling! I can’t believe you even want to control people’s private lives!”
“Why are you guys standing by the door?” Han Muzi walked out of the kitchen and saw that the two men were still standing at the entrance; she scrunched her brows as she asked this question.
“It’s nothing!” George squeezed through the gap between Ye Moxuan and the door, taking advantage of Ye Moxuan’s stunned pause. Then, he asked loudly, “So, what’s for dinner today?”
